I was so late to this opening, it’s a miracle that I wasn’t kicked out. @sreyansisingh you’ve done a marvelous job, and the dramatic jewel box lighting is amazing.

Always a super fan of textiles but with @chanakya.school @shradhakochhar @_neeraj32187 and @ud140792 it’s bound to be a tasty meal.

@jayeeta_chatterjee_art is always in my list of top artists.

Admiring some lovely scones in the most beautiful garden I have ever been in—and don’t worry, I had my fill, followed by madeleines, chocolates, cake, and mochi.

What a surreal pleasure and a privilege it has been these last four days to see and learn from being on the scene of what is one of the historically crucial moments in Indian and South Asian art.

Can’t say enough good things about the team at @knmaindia and how proud and honored I am to be working among such amazing people.

So much to look forward to.

Thank you.

Look at me, and my first big-boy acquisition.

I haven’t been following Kumar @kumarmisalstudio for long, but definitely with severe intensity. He’s mostly been outside my budget, and for good reason. I had written about him for a cover of Art Mumbai @artmumbaiofficial last year and I’m glad to announce that I’m putting my money where my mouth is.

My last conversation with him was in February during India Art Fair @indiaartfair , and although the discussion was cut short, it left me super enthusiastic about an artist with intention and urgency having a practice that is evolving, growing, and pushing boundaries. Sometimes you can just feel that an artist will change the way you look at the world, and I am looking forward to his contributions in the future.

Thank you to @smeetaxi and @artandcharlie for introducing me to such a brilliant guy.

Thank you very much @artindiamagazine and @vadehraartgallery

Thank you @sreyansisingh and the team for making this an exceptionally smooth process.

To all my other friends whose works were in the show, I’ll “catch em all” whenever my pocket is heavy enough to do so.

Not long ago, at 20, I started collecting art from my friends. The bulk of what I have today, in terms of a collection, are from exchanges. Helps to have artist friends of course.

For anyone who is on the edge thinking that collecting art takes millions, just go to an artist and make an offer. Or go to a gallery and ask for directions. It’s easy. AND VERY REWARDING !!!

Also, i don’t know why I chose the Superman theme for this. I do feel quite invincible though.

You know Aksh, right? Aksh Diwan Garg @akshdge . Aksh! He’s one of my favorite painters. You must see his work, and I am telling you he is it! He is this moment in Indian painting. If ten years down the line you don’t look back at his work now, you will have done history an injustice.

We met last year during Art Mumbai when his work was up at Art and Charlie’s @artandcharlie booth—although not for long given the crazy demand they were in. I just had a studio visit with him, and I am proud to say I traveled quite the distance to get to his lovely rooftop studio where he is in the middle of a grand series exploring North Indian weddings.

From food to gossip, and gathering to solitude, his depictions of a wedding landscape are uniquely enjoyable yet acutely triggering for the invested and analytical viewer.

I got a sneak peek into some of his sketchbooks too. While they are not for public viewing, his process and approach put him in a category among the finest we have in the South Asian panorama. I mean to put him side by side with Salman Toor @salman.toor and Noormah Jamal @noormah.jamal and he deserves being named among the best of our peers and seniors of a genre of stylized figuration and social realism on the verge of the surreal.

Do you think I am exaggerating? It’s not just his paintings that have got me excited, it’s the way he narrates them. The close encounters, the intimate scandals, short bursts of energy: every painting leads one more and more into a familial space where a real sense of belonging is in clear contrast with an alien intrusion. Sneaky rewards are weighed down with realizations of socio economic realities, and the thrill of invading further into a personal landscape has to be considered against the cruelty of real life popping up out of nowhere.

Also, did I mention young Mr. Garg is YOUNG? There’s so much to look forward to yet, and I can’t reveal too much. He is showing no signs of either slowing or disappointing in his practice, and you better wish him well.

I love his work, and I am drooling all over his paintings.

Almost two months in Delhi! Alive and well. Most importantly though, happy. I did step on a nail and it went right through my foot but real good otherwise.

A lot of art, some of it good. Some great even. Old friends, new friends, old enemies, but hopefully no new ones. Good people in general though and just beautiful food!!! Had a spiritual journey at a restaurant near Jama Masjid, with a soft follow up in Green Park. Most recently a hearty meal at @lhakitchen.delhi where I am bound to return, very soon.

My meals have involved too many diet cokes lately. Cigarettes made a comeback for a brief moment. I completed a month of sobriety and broke it for a day of leisure and beer.

The dryness of this city is not much fun. Drinking more water than ever before in my life. Still my lips are constantly chapped, my skin has become oilier and the dust doesn’t help. More pimples than in the last 10 years. It’s as if i’m back in my teenage years minus the angst and depression.

Mesmerized by Tyeb Mehta at @knmaindia Every day I find some time to take a walk around the galleries, and every day I am excited.

Watched a Whiplash and Groundhog Day, again, maybe for the 6th time?! Working on a new zine. Got to clean my room, do laundry, go to see more shows!!! So much on my plate but the thirst is unquenchable.

As the heat keeps on encroaching, I think it is high time to look back at almost two months of amazing fun and excitement. Prioritizing good living, healthy habits, and generosity.

Starting today I have joined the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi, India, as an Assistant Curator of Visual Art.

KNMA’s projects and programs have been inspirational and impactful to say the least, not just in my life but throughout India and beyond. I deeply believe in the museum and Chairperson Kiran Nadar’s vision and call to action, bringing art to the public. Engaging them, involving them.

I have always held to my heart this quote from artist Satish Gujral, that art is a language that should be spoken in public spaces. In the years to come I will be proud to say that I stood with those who made this their mission in our country and elsewhere. Right now I am excited for the work at hand, and eager to get going.

I’m all in.

Thank you Deepanjana Klein, Roobina Karode, Akansha Rastogi, Avijna Bhattacharya, Premjish Achari for trusting me.
