The art of underwater colour grading 🎨🌊

Underwater, the camera doesn’t always capture what our eyes experience. As we descend deeper, natural light fades, colours disappear, and the atmosphere of a scene can change completely.

For me, colour grading is more than just making footage look beautiful. It’s about bringing back the natural colours, restoring the feeling of the moment, and staying true to what I experienced underwater.

Here’s a look at the difference between the raw footage and the final colour-graded result. All the videos I took, from a DJI Action5,with a two different settings

4k-60fps:d-logM________25m below
4k-60fps:standard ———-25m above

You don’t always need expensive equipment to create something cinematic. Understanding light, colour, .‼️very important:trust your eye👀and everyone has their own way of colorgrading so keep in mind, when you do something make what you like don’t have to be like anyone.and your own creative vision can make all the difference.

Which version do you prefer: RAW or COLOUR GRADED? 👇

There are so many things about the ocean and my connection to it that I can’t explain. Sometimes, I wonder if what I experience is even real. But one thing I know is that every moment, every frame, and every vision I’ve captured beneath the surface is part of a reality I’m grateful to live.

Some things are simply too deep to explain. They can only be experienced, felt, and remembered.🌊🎨

Had an incredible oceanic manta encounter today at Tiger Dive.

These giants are seasonal here, and right now we’re seeing them almost every day. This one stayed with us for over 30 minutes out in the blue near the edge, cruising past every diver like it was checking each of us out.

A few moments from our daily life at the Maldives Shark Research and Conservation Centre. 🦈

This past month, we’ve welcomed countless visitors from across the Maldives (and the world), held film screenings, worked on building new equipment in the lab, and watched our research team grow. Some of our youngest visitors have even become regulars, dropping by to read books, and learn about sharks almost every day.

With our doors open every day from 9–5, it’s been great to see the Centre truly become a place where people from all ages come together to dive deeper into our work and the sharks of the Maldives. 🙌🏾
