What it actually takes to run sub-30 for 10K. On paper, it looks simple — ten kilometres, under thirty minutes, three minutes per kay, give or take. In reality, it’s one of the most demanding thresholds in recreational running, because it doesn’t leave room to hide. Physiologically, sub-30 pace sits right at your lactate threshold, the point where your body produces lactic acid faster than it can clear it, and once you cross that line and hold it, every kilometre becomes a negotiation between your legs, your lungs, and your mind telling you to back off — most runners can sprint at that intensity, but almost none can sustain it for 30 minutes straight. To get there, you don’t just run more, you train smarter: interval sessions that teach your body to buffer lactic acid, tempo runs that stretch your threshold further each week, long runs that build the aerobic engine underneath it all, and recovery, sleep, and consistency — the boring stuff nobody posts about — done for months, sometimes years, before it ever shows up on a finish line. And on race day, none of that guarantees anything; you still have to hold your nerve when your legs start burning at 6K, resist the urge to ease off when your mind starts negotiating, and trust the training when everything in your body is asking you to stop.

New signing. We’re excited to announce that Seyfu Jamaal officially joins the SportsShoes x Nike Athlete in Residence Programme.

Born in Ethiopia and now UK-based, Seyfu Jamaal is a World Athletics Refugee Team member and currently on the Refugee Olympic pathway for LA 2028. With PBs of 2:15 in the marathon, 29:12 in the 10k, and goals of breaking 29 minutes next, we’re excited to be supporting Seyfu at this point in his career.
