INTERVIEW WITH STRAIGHT UP BREAKBEAT PART 1

DNB FINLAND wants to introduce you the drum&bass labels of our country and what label would be better to introduce first than the pioneer influencer Straight Up Breakbeat!

Here are the questions we asked:
1. Label in short?
2. People working behind the label?
3. History?
4. Future?
5. What's happening next?

Unfortunately all the answers didn't fit this space so they're divided in two posts, check out PART 2 in our next post 🙌

1. Label in short?

Straight Up Breakbeat
Some might call our style modern jungle or deep drum & bass but those kind of tags come and go. Guess what we're known for is a heavily breakbeat driven sound, the original jungle dnb styles updated to 2020s with a touch of Nordic spirit. With music from Fanu, Resound, Aeon Four, Esc, Out Of Fuel and many more, most of our catalogue is available on vinyl. Some are released under the SUBB1996 alias, revisiting the golden era jungle with a fresh twist. Hook up with our lil' sister Mystery City for more easy-going club tracks by Askel, Infekto, Muffler & more.

2. People working behind the label?

Dizzy
I started to dj in the early 90’s, playing funk, dancefloor jazz & rap but soon got hooked by jungle. Since '95 played out and run a show on our equivalent of Radio 1 until the end of '00s. After a few years off I've found the ideal way to keep doing what I love. Running a label is a perfect way to contribute to the local scene and to connect globally. Plus getting fresh vinyl out of the press is still such a high!

Rest of the answers in our next post!

Thank you Dizzy and Straight Up Breakbeat!

ZERO ONE compilation will be out tomorrow featuring Esc (@escjuha), Dj Sofa (@dj_sofa_junglist), Aeon Four (@aeonfour_music) and Mineral (@ilkkakurkela)!! Check it out! 🔥
