Yesterday, I stood in solidarity with the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center congregation after a mural was vandalized with antisemitic messages.

This was a vile act of hatred that has absolutely no place in our community, or anywhere. We will not allow this act of hate to intimidate this congregation or any of our Jewish neighbors.

I’m a Jewish teenager, and I can’t stop thinking about one wall in Altadena.

A community lost their 100-year-old synagogue in the Eaton Fire. They painted a mural on the one wall left standing that reads “We are all responsible for each other,” a message of hope for the whole neighborhood that burned, not just for them. This week someone covered it in swastikas and the words “Zionism is not welcome.” It’s the second attack on that exact wall this year.

You don’t have to be Jewish to feel this one. Just human.

Send this to one person who still calls this “politics.”

This morning, we learned that the community mural at our Altadena Drive campus had been vandalized with swastikas and other antisemitic graffiti.

Created after the Eaton Fire and in response to an earlier act of antisemitism, the mural became something much bigger. It grew into a symbol of hope, resilience, and solidarity - not just for PJTC, but for the entire Altadena community.

The mural was brought to life through the vision and generosity of many. Muralist Miriam Hellmann (@offwrldmurals), the Art over Hate Collective (@artoverhatecollective), the Sparks of Kindness Youth Fund, our religious school students, volunteers, and community members all helped transform a wall once marked by hate into a work of healing and beauty. We are also deeply grateful to Jewish media producer Jeremy Goldscheider (@jeremygolscheider), whose beautiful short documentary captured that journey from beginning to end.

Today, we are deeply saddened and outraged by this act, but we refuse to let it define our community. We are working closely with law enforcement and our security partners as the incident is investigated and as we determine the next steps to restore the mural.

Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with messages of love and support. Your kindness reminds us that we are never alone.

Got to revisit my mural at @burbankcommunitygarden today! I still had a few details to put in and clear coat it to protect against UV and weather. Just one little mini session left and it’s done!

I was asked this week what new works I have coming and I am working on new watershed pieces! Progress is slow on my new artworks as finishing up this mural and my comic for @oaktree_comics has taken priority in my down times from scenic painting.

But my Enjoy Life in the Sepulveda Basin work is almost done and I can’t wait to share the final version with you soon!

In the meantime please enjoy this mural and if you are in Burbank go check it out in person sometime!
