🎬 Just posted a 19-minute documentary on one of our listings. Clips here, the whole film is on YouTube, link in bio.

🏡 The family that built this 1928 house owned the ground under Victoria Club.

📜 Their grandfather signed the map in 1901.
⛳ Their father helped found the club in 1903.
🔔 And in 1949 the Mission Inn’s widow moved in and ran the hotel company from the living room. The 1950 census proves it.
Mom and I spent two months in the archives for this one. Library of Congress, UC Riverside, the National Archives, the county recorder. Every source is credited at the end.
📍 The John Howe Chase House, 4734 Somerset Drive, Riverside

I’ve been in mourning lately, and I honestly didn’t expect to feel joy anytime soon. But our first stenciling workshop with @oldhouseartisan cracked something open. To quote Duncan, “I would mind if all of my days,” were like this one.

Stenciling is one of humanity's oldest decorative acts -- ancient Egyptians and Romans used cut templates to repeat sacred motifs across vast interiors, a ritual of patience against impermanence.

The craft persisted through the Renaissance as affordable ornament, then found its American voice in the early 19th century when itinerant painters like Moses Eaton Jr. carried bold layered stencils through New England parlors, building beauty from repetition rather than wealth. The Arts and Crafts movement later elevated the practice -- Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Gustav Stickley published designs asserting that slowness and intention were necessities, not luxuries.

That is precisely why it comforts now: stenciling is a manual, sequential act of putting one mark after another when nothing else feels ordered, and the quiet proof that even grief yields to pattern if you keep the stencil steady and move slowly enough.

A room full of people making things by hand, actually laughing, surprising themselves—it was a reminder that community and creativity are still on offer, even when everything else feels heavy.

If you’ve been missing that feeling too, come to the next one. @antiquarianclub

Hello everyone, I would like to invite you all to the Regional Restoration Expo put on by the Pasadena Heritage, Altadena Heritage, the Glendale Historical Society, and the Altadena Historical Society. I will be one of the "curated exhibitors" and will have a booth exhibiting many examples of my Greene and Greene work, along with some exemplars of typical Greene and Greene details. I will also be available to discuss restoration work and any other woodworking questions you may have! There will also be experts there to value any antiques you may have to see what they would be worth at auction! Sat, June 13 at the Historic Blinn House in Pasadena! Hope to see you all there! @darrell.peart @bungalowwoodshop @eurekabungalow @josephsjohnston #greeneandgreene #artsandcrafts

I grew this beard in the darkest season of my life.

Depression. Pain. Financial ruin. Ministry collapse.
I needed something that made me feel like a man again.

What started as healing… became a mask.
And the mask became my identity.

But I’m not that man anymore.
I’m not hiding. I’m not posing.
I’m stepping into the fire — beardless and reborn.
