• Felting Merino Wool

Axenia and Vlad happened to be great educators from University of Arts & Design in Romania. They were able to take a break from teaching and share their knowledge alongside their ongoing art practice to our residency. For example, today they’ve decided to teach our manager how to felt using wool, soap, and water.

Soft and foamy day, but hardworking and laborous.

Alongside these, discover live jazz, acoustic music, contemporary gamelan, traditional Balinese rindik, and vinyl selections throughout the weekend.

Three days of art, music, movement, and sound, coming together at Satyanara.

• Gouache Day with George Popov

We tried to do a trial workshop today but our co-founder gave up and ended up making a content for those of you who wants to get to know more about George and his thoughts on painting with gouache.

Anyone interested in taking a proper painting class with our main artist one day?

• Artist Narrative: Olivia De Blanche

Olivia found us through our main artist during an exhibition in Pererenan. She came to our residency this September with a strong determination to explore as much as she can within her art practice. Dedication and consistency have been a big part of her approach every single day. Studio visits with her had been such delights, especially over coffee, tea, and the smell of incense, often in the morning.

We must say that this is one of our most successful resident artists in the context of our concept as a process-based residency. Olivia was able to take her process seriously and grow deeper into her artistic identity —which is what we had always aimed for every artist who comes for our customized program.

Olivia’s going to continue her colorful art practice further, both parties are very sure of that.

• Double Lives — A Session

Bone-chilling vocalizations, resonating guitar and saxophone solos, all combined while you’re drawing with only knowing the gist of when the current loop will end: it’s intense, the ambiance is almost palpable under your hands.

Gala, the first resident artist that did a music residency with us created a project with her friends called HGC Sonoharmonics, and they were able to showcase their works live during our sketch session last week. Keywords like purification, intense, heavy —in a good way —came up post-session. It was not solely a live drawing on a Sunday, it was a wholesome experience.

Stay on the loop if you would like to join one of these experimental live sessions of music and art.

I love the place I’m in right now, and the people who stayed close and keep moving forward with me.

I call this place the aēla @aeeeeela office, Olen @olenriyanto calls it atelier. Technically, it’s a gallery at Mabiang Seni Art Residency @mabiangseni . I love that people come by, while I’m just sitting here in the middle of it all, making my things.

I literally make up my own job every day and figure out how to actually make it all happen as I go.

Currently learning to take things less seriously and let “good enough” be enough instead of always chasing “perfect.”

Lately I’ve also been trying to notice my own growth while it’s actually happening, instead of only realizing it in hindsight.

So I just wanted to leave this moment here.
I really like where I am right now and what’s happening in my life.
