Surf, skate or snow: If you ride a board of any kind (or all kinds), you’ll want to know about the West Coast Triple Plank. Now in its 9th year, the three-day event draws boarders from around the world to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, for a snowboard banked slalom on the slopes of Mount Washington, followed by surf and skateboard comps in the beachside town of Tofino. This year’s festivities are scheduled to go down April 30th to May 3rd.

The Triple Plank was founded in 2017 by Alician Gilmour and pro snowboarder and Patagonia ambassador Marie-France Roy, and over the past nine years has developed a grassroots following among the boarding community.

But the event is about more than sport; it’s also a way to help protect the island’s stunning coastlines. All proceeds go to @reddfishrestoration, a charity dedicated to ecosystem restoration, research and stewardship in the area, and last year’s Triple Plank raised $32,000 for the organization.

“I wanted this to be a tool, a way to bring people together to celebrate what we love to do and at the same time raise funds and awareness for people and organizations who are helping us protect those places,” Marie says. “I knew that if we did this, it needed to be meaningful.”

While the event itself may be sold out, anyone is welcome to come watch the festivities, get in on the good times or donate to Redd Fish.
