The screening concept takes the well as a starting point, thinking through its vertical and horizontal associations. Vertically, it considers the well as a space of depth, descent, and looking inward. Horizontally, it follows the concrete surface of a well, on the former Nuss Brunnen Feld, and the flow of water extending toward the port, the sea, and the horizon beyond.

The works in the program engage with these relationships through different distances between the body, nature, objects, and architecture, as well as through different ways of looking and sensing space. The screening will take place within the space of Walnut Well itself, so the site and its architectural surfaces will also become part of the viewing experience.

orbit is an international and interdisciplinary platform for exhibition and publication, extending across conversations, interviews, research, and other forms of exchange, founded and directed by Rio Usui.
From autumn 2026, orbit will be hosted by Walnut Well, where it will develop and present a series of activations and cultural events.

Long Distance Lick (2026)
glazed ceramics

„Online and (…) meters away from you“ and similar lines ask readers/consumers/lovers to imagine the possibilities through their literal proximity, evoke lust, fear and spacial reckonings. If you fantasise about licking your wall at the same time as your neighbour, does it constitute a kiss?
For the inauguration of Walnut Well two ceramic tounges bridge the longest possible distance at the entrance of the space by reaching for each other. A gesture of exploration becomes appropriation of space, becomes the question who makes a room, a wall and its histories.

As an epilogue to orbit sphere #3, we exchanged fragments of our neighboring environments in Tokyo and Vienna through a poster, photographs, and observational texts.
Inspired by Moyra Davey’s Raw Material practice, this project explores how analogue materials can be transformed and archived in digital form through the slow process of airmail correspondence.

We walk from the inside, from the window to the corridor, stepping outward into the neighbourhood.

Observing someone’s gaze, or perhaps being observed ourselves.

Following the traces of presence, distance, and the layers that surround us every day.

For the third feature of orbit sphere, a conversation-based interview, we are welcoming Naoto Nakamura.
Through his work, we explore living spaces, ways of seeing, and the forms that emerge through the negotiation of distance and relationships within everyday environments.

Naoto Nakamura, a Japanese artist and designer working across photography, video, sculpture, installation, and writing. He graduated in Visual Design from Kanazawa College of Art and is currently enrolled in the Global Art Practice MFA at Tokyo University of the Arts. Through fragments of furniture and space, his practice explores the untranslatable boundaries between internal confinement, external dispersion and accumulated notions.
