“Frente al vacío” which translates to “Facing the void”.
Which is what you will do when looking at this piece.

30x40

Acrylic and Spray paint on stretched canvas

It originally started as an all red piece which I liked for the longest time until I got the idea that it could be taken a step further and be repurposed into a whole new painting with a different story than just me liking the color red and wanting to add some textures.

I needed to give the viewer something to look at; a focal point per se and to let the textures reveal themselves in another way. There was a calling for more to applied to this piece before I could say it’s completed or finished and knowing me I may find something else to supplement what was already there.

There’s a new feeling when looking at this and it establishes and invokes new emotions when looking at it now opposed to its earlier inception.

Overall ; I’m happy with how this turned out and I plan to snowball from this possibly trying to implement this into new pieces going forward.

Almost a week of pure bliss 🥹 we have been blessed and thankful for the safe delivery of our baby girl into this world. She has completed us in a way that is beyond words. I want to give a huge shout out to a few people:
my mom, my aunt Sarah, June’s sister Katelin, big sister Chloe, and to June for being the best partner I could ask for throughout this delivery and post partum. Meet Vayle Laron Brooks, our new little princess 👑

I feel like I feel and say this a lot about my paintings but this is easily one of my favorites I’ve done by far so far.

Id like to say my inspiration came from how much I love my own mama ,how impactful the love of a mother is to a child and thinking back on similar paintings I’d see growing up around my grandmothers house.

But really I didn’t have that in my mind firstly and was just going to paint something super random but just looking at the canvas before starting i knew that I wanted to paint something that had some meaning and visual emotion to it that my abstract paintings don’t normally have.

I call this one “ Gaze from a mother “.

24x36 acrylic painting on canvas.
