POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

After years of focusing my time and energy in the world of weaving to teach and support others, I’ve re-balanced my design practice to focus on what I started out to do: use my skills as a weaver to create engaging designs and products through weaving.

Introducing ShadowForms, my first foray into acoustic textiles. Woven using wool, wire, paper, cotton and wool roving (the thick wool seen in the design) I’ve created a layered system to absorb, deflect and dissipate sound. I’m aim is to scale up these pieces and for large architectural spaces.

There is still much research and testing to do to refine this process, so if any of my engineering or architecture friends out there have any suggestions, I’m open to hearing your views. 😉

I may not have become an engineer or architect (#noregrets ), but I’m still channeling my curiosity into how things work, using my design skills to merge science and art.

With less than a week to go until my London Textile Month workshop, I’ve been thinking about the role materials play in my weaving practice.

I have always explored how different materials can work together in response to the project at hand—from wool and cotton to wire and fibre optics.

If you’ve ever wondered how to introduce new materials into your own practice, join me next Thursday at the Museum of the Home in London for an exploratory day of weaving on The Oxford Frame Loom.

We’ll consider how different materials behave within a textile, how those choices relate to the intended outcome, and how introducing an additional warp can expand your creative possibilities. I’ll also demonstrate how these ideas can be explored using a frame loom—and, of course, we’ll cover the essential techniques you need to begin and finish your weaving.

A few places are still available. Use the code SABO25 at checkout to receive an additional £25 discount. Booking link in bio.

I hope to see you there!

FELLOW PARTICIPANT SHOUTOUT
There are so many amazing and inspiring things to see and do during Selvedge London Textile Month. A stone's throw away from my own show with @alihollowayweaver there are so many inspiring events @museumofthehome The talk Rhythm of the Loom with Vanessa Houlder, about weaving songs that shaped Britain's textiles workers lives. Drop -in events such as 'Woven Lives in Spitalfields', by Christopher Farr and Chris Dyson, exploring the histories of migration, refuge and belonging through the lens of the home. And of course fellow weavers @_kendallclarke and @suelawty and their superb workshop Threads of Paper - both highly esteemed and knowledgeable and one not to be missed. Whilst on the conversation of fellow weavers check out Cassandra Sabo's weave workshop @csabodesigns and @oxfordweavingstudio I feel so honoured to be a part of this incredible event alongside so many other creatives in the world of textiles. Which events are you attending? Maybe I’ll see you there! Head to the Selvedge link in bio or visit selvedge.org > Events > Textile Month to explore what’s on and book your place.

Oxfordshire Artweeks in my ‘new’ garden studio. Was great getting it all together in time, having friends come by and support me during the Private View and on the weekends that followed.

And I couldn’t have survived it without the company of fellow makers @etta_rain_ceramics and @pennymaltbymaker . It was a tale of two halves with ☔️ one weekend and☀️ the other. Very English weather.

Hoping next year will be even better. 🥂 #oxfordshireartweeks #openstudios #gardenstudio

That’s a wrap!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted or purchased something from me at this years #oxfordshireartweeks .

It was a little daunting to get my garden AND studio together in time for exhibiting my work and that of @etta_rain_ceramics and @pennymaltbymaker this May.

But we did it! And it was looking better and better each day as I found more textile pieces to exhibit and tinkered with my display. So happy to have made the switch to my home studio.

And if you’re interested in my journey, I’ll be sharing more about my move, giving you a little tour as I set up for a summer of weaving. #studiolove #textilestudio #rusticspace

It’s been a flurry of activity in my garden studio and behind the scenes as I ready my home for the inaugural #oxfordshireartweeks event starting this Saturday!

Moving from a larger studio to a smaller space has been a real challenge. While still a work in progress, I am welcoming visitors this weekend, the 16th & 17th and again from the 22nd - 25th from 10am - 4pm daily.

I am joined by fellow Design Nation member @pennymaltbymaker and the fabulous Rachel of @etta_rain_ceramics for this event, making it a welcome treat to exhibit together for the first time.

Visit us to discover handwoven designs for the home, crafted straw pieces, straw-inspired textiles and beautifully tactile ceramics.

Drop in to learn more about my progress, chat textiles, browse ceramics and shop for something special in the home. #oxfordartweeks2026 #designnation #openstudios #oxford

Guys, please send me ideas for what else I could make from this lovely fabric. It would be such a nice project to create something new from it.

A little while ago I was featured in @koelmagazine and asked to write a weaving pattern for one of my cushion designs (seen in the last image).

It was such a pleasure to share my views about my practice, weaving in general and include a pattern for the cushion featured in these photos.

There were so many lovely photos from the photoshoot I thought I’d share them. And if you like the cushion, head over to the Koel website to subscribe to their digital publication and gain access to their incredible catalogue of artists, sources of inspiration and projects across the textiles spectrum!

Thanks Irene for the chance to be featured!
