Halasuru Remembers | ಹಲಸೂರು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ

Halasuru is one of those parts of Bangalore that holds so much — ancient temples, an old lake, streets that have seen centuries go by. But what many people don’t know is that this neighbourhood also quietly held space for our transgender community long before the world started having conversations about inclusion. It was, in many ways, a home.

We began our first visit here with something simple — a sketch party. At a temple that is over 600 years old. And it was one of those days that just stays with you. The people who came, the stillness of the space, the sound of pencils on paper inside something so ancient. We didn’t plan for it to be special. It just was.

This is the beginning of something we’re calling Halasuru Remembers — a project to walk through this neighbourhood, to listen, and to see it through stories that don’t always make it into the history books. We look forward to exploring more such spaces, with more of you.

More details coming soon. 🧡
Thank you @linearfestivals.in for the support for the first edition. Would have loved to tag the other participants :)

Revisiting our last night of Dans Punk x QRAVE. The night was split into two different worlds, each with its own magic and incredible talent.

The Rest & Release room was for long breaths, sinking into the surroundings and joyfully swaying to the beat.
@pardafash started things off gently with her live performance, followed by @edenuriel.wav and @abhi_meer who brought playful and cathartic energy to the dance floor. @fursat_fm closed the night, bringing a sense of gentle meditative ease and after care to the room.

We bring some of this back this Saturday at the top floor of Indiranagar Social.

Exciting news! ⚡ Basanti Swad ke Hamare Chawal - the Hindi translation of 'Our Rice Tastes of Spring' written by our friend and journalist Anumeha Yadav is out!! 🌾 Translated by the brilliant writer Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar, who has taken this book to the next level. The book has been illustrated and designed by us at @spittingimage.in and art directed by @pardafash

Set in Jharkhand, through the story of Jinid and her family this book is a celebration of rice, highlights the importance of preserving indigenous seeds and is a critique of industrial farming. ☀️☀️
The book is published by Eklavya @eklavya_pitara who have always brought out such cool children's literature.

today on the 12th august, on the solar eclipse, i am happy and proud to announce my new and third book: medicine for a healing world.✨✨✨

this one is poetry and prose, available on hardcover (image 1) and paperback (image 2). my first hardcover book is out!

this collection is a companion for the times. the words were written over the years from 2021 and is a dive into my own journey of stepping and moving through the rising. the rising into individual self responsibility, into authority, ownership, accountability, sovereignty and power. and reclaiming all parts of self in order to do so!

i have been documenting my journey and boy were we tested throughout that period, and even now still.

there is so much happening in our world that is hard to witness and at the same time, we are elevating through it all. if you feel that it can all get a bit much, then i invite you to open a page. this is our remembrance. where many of us are seizing the opportunity that’s presented to us all through this time. coming online to our why and doing the deep work in becoming that.

thank you so much to @pardafash for the beautiful cover art and to @ashlyn_sound_stylist for suggesting to design a cover and on hardcover!

available online, link in bio or dm me to order!

see you tonight for a reading at blythe hill fields, 7pm.

Over the past couple of months, as 'Selector Pro: Women In Electronic Music' completed 7 years since its last edition and its partners @Ableton deepened their commitment of making music production more accessible through region-specific pricings, rent-to-own options and learning-enabling updates, we looked at the alumni that came out of the @inbritish-supported programme and have since defined the alternative music space of India.

Avril Stormy Unger (@thestormfactory) now hosts her own queer-centering skill-sharing events and parties,@_lushlata_ became the first woman from India to DJ at the Berghain, @Pardafash has had some seminal releases via platforms like shesaid.so x Azadi Records and ONNO Collective, @Sijya's music has seen a burgeoning career with releases on labels like One Little Independent and recent performances at Netherlands' Rewire Festival, Skulk aka @katyayinigargi has emerged as a unique voice with mutliple albums in her discography, and @Suyasha is about to open for The Foo Fighters with her band @StillinTherapy.

"Just look at how many musicians came out of these workshops," says Skulk while Lush Lata remarks: "An experience like Selector Pro can really usher in the new wave of creatives and harness a sense of community for our young creatives!"

Read our feature 'Revisiting 'Women In Electronic Music' & The Role Of Ableton In Shaping New Voices' via link in bio to know more about them and read their perspective.

A heist is about to take place… At the local sub-registrar’s office.

Love this photo of us by Aniruddh.

If you ever watched a heist movie like the Ocean’s Eleven or Snatch, this might be a familiar sight. 💎🥷

Originally, I wanted to pick the music from the Snatch for this post but it wasn’t available here. So, settled for Ocean’s Eleven :)

We continue to look back at Selector Pro: Women In Electronic Music, our workshop series and its alumni that have carved their own space since, as its 7 years coincide with its supporters @Ableton launching special rent-to-own prices for India alongside new updates.

Today, we look at @Pardafash, who has since developed a multi-faceted practice championed by the likes of @Consolidateblr, @AzadiRecords, @ONNOCollective, @QRave_official and @Slingshot_festival.

The No Signal tour came to a close on 15 April in the most perfect way at @the_hummingtree Bangalore.

Sharing this final leg with @discopuppet and @dashrhl felt like a full circle moment. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to end it.

Huge thanks to @naquashv and @iambharavi for making this night something we’ll carry with us for a long time.

And to everyone who showed up on a Wednesday and gave us your energy, it meant everything. The community around this music feels real, and we’re grateful to be a part of it.

See you again soon 🥂❤️
