The month of my annual trip around the sun. My checkpoint. A reason to notice what’s changed, what still fits, and what doesn’t anymore.

August came with a new city, a new home, a lot less familiarity, and a whole lot of trust.

My lifelong friend recently reminded me how important the in-between is. The liminal space after you’ve made a life-altering decision, but before you know exactly what comes next.

There is so much the liminal teaches you.

About loneliness. Identity. Attachment. The stories we tell ourselves. The sensations that we feel. The things we thought we wanted. And what happens when life gets quiet enough for us to actually hear ourselves.

Bravery is often much quieter than we expect.

Sometimes it’s admitting you’re unhappy. Acknowledging the ways you’ve participated in that unhappiness, or the ways you’ve broken your own heart by accepting what you knew wasn’t right for you.

And I think, more often than not, we already know what we need to do.

We’re not always searching for an answer. Sometimes we’re battling with the answer we already have because the familiar is comfortable, even when it no longer serves us or makes us happy.

There’s a certain kind of courage in ending that argument with yourself and actually being the change you wish to see.

It’s also accepting that not everything you leave behind was wrong. You can deeply love a life, a place, a person, or a dream and still know it’s time to move on.

And that’s where the in-between gets R E A L L Y good.

You don’t have to have everything figured out to trust yourself. And you don’t have to stay somewhere simply because it once felt like home.

We aren’t as stuck as we sometimes convince ourselves we are.

Anyway…August. 🤍

A little life lately, from somewhere in the in-between.
