It was before I did THIS when it entered my mind…

Surprise!

Yesterday it was raining in Scotland.

Now normally people sigh at the rain…

Other than the guy who has freshly cut his grass of course. They want it to rain.

This got me thinking about expectations.

When we expect something to happen and it doesn’t we can be left feeling annoyed, frustrated and perhaps a little angry.

Whilst expectation kills joy, when something meets our expectations we feel ok about the situation.

But when something exceeds our expectations that’s when we feel surprised, happy and joyful.

Yesterday I went a run. It was windy, rainy and about to get dark (like I said…I live in Scotland 😉)

However the wind and the rain didn’t put me off. In fact it MADE my run.

I EXPECTED the wind and the rain on my face.

I enjoyed the feeling that, ‘I COULD.’ In fact, this was the main reason I wanted go a run…because I could.

Because I could feel the wind and the rain.

Because I could go for a run.

Because…I can.

Instead of focussing on how horrible the weather can be…choose to focus on the gratitude: The fact that, you can, if you want.

You want to be present and experience the moment.

Free yourself by trading your expectations for appreciation.

“You’re not going to progress if you’re not MOTIVATED!”

What a load of nonsense !

The truth is no one is motivated all the time.

In fact I’d go as far to say the majority of successful people do not attribute their success to motivation or being motivated…

They don’t wait to feel good before doing.

and they certainly don’t focus on what they don’t want…

To them the pain of taking no action far outweighs the pain of consistent action.

So they show up.

They show up consistently.

They are driven. They have discipline. And most importantly…

they are just like you…

human.

Every day has its ups and downs. It’s setbacks. It’s challenges.

But you get to choose how you perceive. How you respond.

Are you closed off or do you see opportunity?

Do you wait to feel motivated before doing?

Or do you choose to take the small consistent steps forward that add up over time?

The habits. The behaviours.

These are what drive success.

Not motivation.

‘Like’ if you agree.

Those who lose weight and keep it off do THIS ⬇️

1. For a period of time post weight loss, continually self monitor. Use these 4 simple tools…

Track changes in mirror/how clothes fit, use food scales, track calories, have awareness of portion sizes.

Those who lose weight and keep it off feel tracking calories and portion control allows them to enjoy eating out whilst still hitting their goals.

Those who do not keep weight off say their biggest struggles are poor planning, peer pressure when eating out, and that feeling of being very constrained/restricted.

2. Those who keep weight off are better with meal planning and managing social events.

For example, everyone knows Christmas and Thanksgiving come every year.

Avoiding over consumption is a common trend in those who keep the fat off.

3. Intrinsic & extrinsic motivation.

Intrinsic being more important, whereby those who keep fat off feel driven to make a change, driven to exercise, and driven to engage in behaviours for the good of their health.

Extrinsic, including wanting to look better. Those who keep fat off talk about reinventing themselves a lot.

PEIK Pro Becomes Champion

Congratulations to @rossmax06 who won his class a couple of weeks ago at the @ukdfba and then placed in the @bnbf_official

PEIK Professionals pride ourselves on integrity and is therefore important for you to know this transformation is the result of at least 2 years of applying training, nutrition and lifestyle changes specific to competing in bodybuilding.

Coached by @ajpottsy, Ross first came to us back in 2020 with the goal of placing in a drug free bodybuilding competition.

After previously competing in 2015 (alongside @ajpottsy) it was clear Ross had the drive, commitment, determination and coachability to achieve his vision.

A vision that was specific to him and one he wanted to achieve at that time in his life.

After various phases of training, fast forward to June 2022 when Ross achieved more than what he initially set out to.

He is now a champion.

But more than that, he was able to continue to perform at his best to progress in his career and at the same time be an incredible husband and an inspiring dad to his children.

Achieving feels amazing, and Ross certainly is a high achiever.

However, it’s the learning process throughout the journey that really matters most.

It’s important to relish the moment you achieve because that feeling will soon be gone a day or two later.

When you have the right support around you and you can eventually see clearly, you’ll realise the true learnings you’ve established.

Accessing moments, being truly present, grateful and genuinely happy for the things that matter most.

Challenging journeys have this way of testing you.

A way that you could not possibly comprehend before you set out.

Ross met them head on, learned and is now onto the next chapter in his life, leading with his true values.

Thank you Ross 🙏

Personal best, Empathy, Integrity, Kindness

This week I sat down and chatted with Alan Potter. Alan is a teacher, athlete, and coach. Whether it is through teaching his students or his clients, Alan has a true passion for connecting with others and helping them learn. While Alan does a great job helping his students and clients learn the specific subject matter, he also finds ways to incorporate other life lessons. Things like better understating our emotions, self-care, and just simply becoming more in tune with who we are. Going into this conversation, I had a good idea that we would be talking about fitness. While we definitely did, it was great to hear a lot about Alan's mindset. While our physical health is important, our mental health is just as, if not more, important. It's really awesome to hear that this is something that Alan helps teach both his clients and students. I have no doubt that Alan is going to continue to positively impact many people. I'm really looking forward to future conversations with him and to continue to watch Piek Professionals grow.

In this episode Alan talks about coaching, managing your emotions, understanding our needs, and much more!

Go give Alan some love!

“I exercise early but can’t stomach food first thing in the morning”

“I exercise after work and I’m not sure what and how much to eat”

“I enjoy body pump but I sometimes feel lethargic, low on energy and light headed”

Are you a morning or afternoon/evening trainer?

Or perhaps you just exercise whenever time allows?

This post will give you some insight into what, when, why and how much to eat before your training

Hands up if this post helped you 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️⬇️⬇️

Imagine this…

You’ve spent weeks and months in a calorie deficit,

You’ve successfully navigated your way to lose all the fat you set out to at the start of your journey,

You’re feeling proud, healthy, confident and you’re inspiring others around you.

You stop your ‘diet’ and pile all the weight back on and more!

Back to square one and you’re left feeling frustrated and disappointed, all that effort down the pan.

The reason being, when you have been in a calorie deficit for a relatively long period of time,

you have literally set yourself up for MAJOR FAT GAIN if you do not follow the plan after the plan.

Similar to when you squeeze a sponge, sink it in water and release your grip, your body will soak that fat up,

and at a much faster rate than when you initially started your fat loss phase.

This is the reason why 95% of ‘diets’ FAIL.

Heading back to your maintenance calories can be a daunting prospect.

The fear of putting all that weight back on can be crippling and force you into giving up.

This is why it is imperative you head to your CURRENT maintenance because this will have changed.

Having a structured plan specific to YOU is vital to lose the weight and keep it off FOREVER.

You don’t want to be tracking the rest of your life, right?

You want to get your result as fast and as sustainable as possible so you can eventually reach an intuitive way of eating, exercising and general well-being.

Learning to do this on your own can be very overwhelming.

Having someone in your corner who has achieved what you want to,

and has the education and evidence to show you what’s possible,

is key for your belief system and ability to continue to achieve your full potential as you travel your own journey.

Frustrated stepping on the scales when you’re trying to lose weight and the number goes up!

Your mind and emotions go crazy, thinking, ‘I’ve been consistently in a calorie deficit but my weight has increased”

Queue loss of motivation, become disheartened and quickly fall off that fat loss wagon just as you were about to break through.

Tracking your weight can be scary for some people.

Past experience using the scales to measure weight loss may have caused some feelings of anxiety and worry.

Lightbulb: You do not need to use the scales to measure your fat loss.

Although they can provide data to help track your progress, they are not essential

(Check out the best ways to monitor your progress by swiping left).

However, the more personal data you have, the more facts to have and the easier it is for you to make changes…

The easier it is to make changes, the faster you can get results.
