Our next artist featured in the Hold The Line Art Show is the fantastic Peta Tron!

An imaginative illustrator and zine maker, Peta creates whimsical fantasy creatures and monsters inspired by cartoons, books, games and horror.

Here’s what Peta had to say about the role art plays in her life:

“I find the art of creating to be meditative. It can help me to feel better, either by distracting me from what is going on or giving me a different avenue to think about and work through my problems.”

Thank you, Peta, for sharing your thoughts with us. Your imaginative worlds and wonderfully quirky characters remind us that creativity can offer both an escape and a way to process life’s challenges. We’re delighted to have your unique work featured in this year’s Hold The Line Art Show.

Arcana is a group exhibition that explores the timeless and mysterious symbolism of the tarot through a collection of newly created artworks. Each participating artist will reimagine one or more of the 22 major arcana cards, responding to and transforming traditional archetypes.

The works will span a range of mediums and embrace a spectrum of styles from whimsical and quirky to darkly atmospheric and gothic. Together, they will form a cohesive yet diverse narrative, inviting audiences to step into a gallery that feels like walking through a living tarot deck.

Featuring original works by Mr Dimples, Dale Harris, Chris Duffy - Ha Ho Art, Cheryl Bailey, Peta Tron, Margaret Jolley, Rowany Mills, Ella Bailey, Ivan Sun, Rosalee Clark, Rhayven Jane, Leah Hartley, Sara McQueenie, Electric Siren, Sarah Harris, JoBird Art, Kara Vena Cava, Amy Woodward, Kaz, Amy Bailey, Emily Fisher, Kate Smith, Bridie O’Toole, Narsha Kang and Steven Stanley. Curated by Dale Harris

Open Daily from 10am to 5pm until Tuesday 23rd of June.

Detail from The Mage is a Devil, 2026 by Peta Tron ( @petatron )

Whilst drawing this card I decided to take its themes and imagery of the devil quite literally. The original card shows a devil holding two figures in bondage. It depicts hopelessness, incarceration, and debt. It is an angry looking card and the evil presence of the Devil appears to be larger than life.

I replaced these figures with skulls, past victims of the Mage and surrounded him with poisonous mushrooms.

The Mage is a character that I have been drawing for close to a decade now and as I draw him I have come to realise his true nature. He is an evil villain with magical powers, the true limit of these is unknown. What I have come to know is that the Mage is a Devil.

2026 is the Year of the Mage. I have been creating many art works featuring his likeness. I find that others still view him as a “good” character. This card is to put all rumours to rest. The Mage is not your friend. He is not here to help you, he’d probably rather hinder you. He is an undesirable force at play.

Yes I know he still looks cute and cuddly. I can’t help that. That is just how he is and how I draw.

Peta Tron is an illustrator and zine maker with a focus on character design and world building. Peta loves to draw fantasy creatures and monsters. Her art is colourful and playful yet contains spooky and ominous undertones.

She is heavily inspired by cartoons from the 60s, 70s and 80s, as well as picture books from her childhood, role playing games, and horror movies and books.

She has produced a series of collaborative zines entitled Monsters and worked with bands both locally and internationally.

Peta currently occupies a plant filled space in the Hargreaves Studios where she draws her creatures and worlds and continues to self publish her zines and art books.
