🔔 ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ (1939) handmade poster by Plakiat Maks Bereski @plakiat 🔔 Zoom & Prints ☛ Plakiat.com/poster/419 ☚ My love and fascination with Quasimodo’s story is linked to Disney’s version, but this time I wanted to draw a poster for the 1939 adaptation which was the inspiration for Hunchback’s look from the ‘90s. Starring Charles Laughton as the Bell-Ringer, based on the literary Gothic masterpiece by Victor Hugo. For all the outcasts. 🔔 Kyrie Eleison. 💃🏽 Notes: 1) The 1996 music by Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz (e.g. ‘The Bells of Notre Dame’, ‘Hellfire’, ‘Out There’) is an absolute masterpiece. 2) Yes, I drew Hunchback and a Notre Dame bell by hand on paper. 3) When I was 7, I had Disney’s Hunchback poster in my room. 4) Poster number 419 ✥✥✥ #thehunchbackofnotredame #quasimodo #hunchback #filmposter #movieposter @notredamedeparis @notredamedeparis_officiel @disney @disneyanimation @vincentcassel @ampposters -- Let's work together! Boo. 👻 ‘CASPER’ (1995) film poster painted from scratch by Plakiat Maks Bereski @plakiat 🛷 Zoom ☛ Plakiat.com/poster/417 ☚ ‘Casper’ is a deeply special and melancholy film for me, something James Horner’s score captures beautifully, especially in the scenes with Christina Ricci. Its remarkable visual effects by Industrial Light & Magic and warm, family-friendly tone make it a true comfort movie. Whenever you’re feeling down and experiencing that strange dissonance with the world around you, remember that there are still these analogue films from the 90s. Little ghosts from another time, carrying something tangible and human that still speaks to us. Your friendly poster maker - Maks. / Executive Producer: Steven Spielberg / “Can I Keep You?” Special notes: 1) Casper’s pupils on the poster are my own pupils. 2) Full digital painting - no artificial stuff here. 3) In Polish dubbing, Casper was voiced by spectacular Edyta Jungowska. 4) Plakiat’s ‘Childhood Memories’ subseries. 5) Poster number 417 ✥✥✥ #casper #ghost #christinaricci #filmposter #movieposter @ilmvfx @amblin @skywalkersound @one.perfect.frame -- Who you gonna call? As an acolyte of witchcraft though the ages and all manner of magical subjects, Hogwarts included, I present unto thee a hand-painted poster concerning magic, witches, the occult, and folklore. It must needs be the season of the witch, Dear Viewer. 🐀 Directed by Benjamin Christensen. ✥✥✥ #haxan #witchcraft #witch #movieposter #hogwarts @criterioncollection -- Let's work together! It’s a manhunt from the point of view of two scoundrels who set off in pursuit of a fugitive. Like two ravenous hounds, they’re tracking the man who is most likely a Nazi collaborator. They need to execute him. No mercy. Strzelecki and Majda have taken on the responsibility of carrying out the death sentence handed down by the Polish resistance. It’s their debt to settle. Strzelecki and Majda wander across a rugged landscape. The wintry sun shines down on them going through bogs and forests, villages and meadows. The sight of the surrounding mountains echoes their anger and rage. The pursuers are bandits who raise fear in locals. One circumspect, the other irascible and timorous. Their career in robbery has begun with insatiable greed. The thrill felt intoxicating. They quickly became consumed by their own wickedness and brutality. Although the thought of robbing their own brethren was hard to bear, the war dispels all doubts. Traditional ties and old alliances are also upended by the war. And yet, their pursuit of wealth is a game of blind chance, a matter of going round in circles, retracing their own steps among those richer and more powerful. Poor, war-weary people are vigilant and sombre, always afraid to divulge too much information or not to the right people. With all the lies people tell, Strzelecki and Majda can’t separate the wheat from the chaff. But do they even know what honesty means? They feel they’re close. But worries begin to grow in their hearts. Why have they been asked to kill the man? Have they been tricked into chasing the wrong man? Maybe one of them is a traitor who snitched just to ease the burning pain of being rejected by a woman? What is their fate? Will they be redeemed? It’s a novel about morality during the war. The plot is simple but momentous, with two hunters moving closer toward their prey while delving into their existential depths. Tension builds until catharsis. The chasers’ commitment to their job creates the novel’s claustrophobic atmosphere. The prose is vivid and the cadence of the sentences is faultless. The dramatic narrative gathers pace in moments of danger.

👹🤎 ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ (2009) handmade poster by Plakiat Maks Bereski @plakiat / ZOOM & prints ☛ Plakiat.com/poster/413 ☚ A beautiful tale about acceptance and anger control by Spike Jonze, songs by Karen O and The Kids 🤴🏻 There are films that sometimes speak to us more deeply because they are more personal. For me, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ is one of those films, not only because the main character’s name is Max. I wasn’t always an easy child, and I’m not always an easy adult. We are all children; our bodies are just bigger. I know the world of imagination, of imaginary lands and friends, from experience. I’ve wanted to make this film poster since I started Plakiat. As you can see, I had to create a hybrid of the Creatures’ film design with Sendak’s original designs. By Maks, who is also a Wild Thing. 🐐 Produced by @warnerbros @warnerbrosentertainment ✥✥✥ #wherethewildthingsare #mauricesendak #movieposter #illustration #childrenillustration @spikejonze @maxrecords1997 @sendakfoundation @skywalkersound -- Let's work together!
