A giant freshwater stingray was recently filmed by drone in a tributary of the Araguaia River in Brazil, astonishing local residents, fishermen, and viewers online with its remarkable size.

The stingray was seen swimming just beneath the water’s surface and appeared to be comparable in size to a nearby fishing boat. Although drone perspective can exaggerate an animal’s apparent size, the footage highlights the extraordinary dimensions that South America’s freshwater stingrays can achieve.

Tributaries are rivers and streams that flow into a larger river, increasing its water volume and supporting its ecosystem. The Araguaia River basin is one of central Brazil’s most important freshwater systems and is home to an exceptional diversity of aquatic life, including hundreds of fish species, freshwater turtles, and several species of freshwater stingrays.

The sighting serves as a reminder of the remarkable biodiversity of the Araguaia basin and the importance of protecting its rivers and tributaries, which provide essential habitat for some of South America’s most extraordinary freshwater wildlife.

The Meg 2 brings the terrifying idea of encountering the extinct megalodon, one of the largest sharks to ever exist. This giant marine predator lived millions of years after the dinosaurs disappeared, meaning it never shared the oceans with creatures like Tyrannosaurus rex.

While the movie is science fiction, it captures the fascination of prehistoric life – combining extinct predators, deep-sea exploration, and the mystery of Earth’s ancient past.

🦈 Megalodon vs Dinosaurs? A fantasy.
🌎 Prehistoric giants? A reality.
