I’m excited to share that I have been selected for the 2026-2027 Hearst News Lab Fellowship (@psunewslab )! I have been chosen to be part of the Local Government Accountability Cohort, which will give me the chance to do in-depth storytelling across a variety of platforms, including video, print, and social media. I must thank Maggie Messitt, Erin Strout, and Min Xian for trusting me with this opportunity. I can’t wait to get started with this amazing team!

I’m so excited to announce that I have been selected for the 2026-2027 Hearst News Lab Fellowship! I will be working alongside the most wonderful team of individuals to produce in-depth, investigative pieces about rural public health. Coming from a background in broadcast, I’m looking forward to investing in a different type of storytelling while still finding ways to listen intently, ask thoughtful questions, and give others a voice. I have so much gratitude for Maggie Messitt, Erin Strout, and Min Xian for trusting me with this opportunity. Can’t wait to hit the ground running in August!

This week, #InsideAppalachia 🌄, a new story comes to us from Cade Miller, who reported it when he was a student at the News Lab (@psunewslab) at Penn State.

Last year, he produced a documentary that speaks to a dynamic happening across the US, as people grow away from their agricultural roots. It’s titled, “The Wakefields –Two Brothers, Six Generations.”

Our documenters include a small notes (“a note from your documenter”) in their meeting takeaways that speak directly to community members. These notes include clarifications, explanation of terms and help provide more context about the implications of different bills being passed.
