Celebrating Our Oklahoma Partners

The Great Plains International Marimba Competition would not be possible without the support of outstanding organizations that believe in music, education, and the development of young artists. We are especially grateful for the Oklahoma-based partners who help make GPIMC a reality each year.

From supporting educational opportunities and performance experiences to helping us welcome competitors and guests from around the world, these organizations play an important role in the continued growth and success of our event.

This year, we would like to recognize and thank the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, the Oklahoma Modern Music Collective, Palen Music Center, Music & Arts, the University of Oklahoma Percussion Studio, Southmoore High School, and the Oklahoma Music Company for their generous support and partnership.

Their commitment to the arts helps create meaningful opportunities for aspiring musicians while strengthening Oklahoma's vibrant cultural community.

We are proud to work alongside organizations that share our belief in the transformative power of music education and artistic excellence.

Thank you for helping make the 2026 Great Plains International Marimba Competition such a memorable and successful event. We are grateful for your partnership and honored to have you as part of the GPIMC family.

Please join us in thanking these incredible Oklahoma organizations for their continued support of GPIMC.

Thank you Jamie Whitmarsh for training me and thanks to the band for trusting me to get this program up and running in such a short period of time. Thank you to our AFM Local (Musicians of 375-703) and the Music Performance Trust Fund for sponsoring this event.

Eternally Grateful for the invitation to play alongside this amazing section of percussionists with the @okc_phil ! It is pretty surreal to do the thing I have been training to do for almost a decade.

I only had a small part in the epic work that is Rhespigi's "Feste romane", but I felt an immense rush of pride and joy that makes me excited for the next one.

P.S. I prepared for the music, not for the tornado warnings, those can stay away.

Always appreciate getting to perform with the @okc_phil percussion section. Had a great time performing Prokofiev’s 5th Symphony tonight.

✨ I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected as a Kirkpatrick Fellow Artist. Thanks to this program, I had the chance to experience something truly special in Santa Fe, surrounded by inspiring visual artists, musicians, gallerists, and creatives.

We visited the Santa Fe Opera (a must!), got a backstage tour, enjoyed a private visit to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, had meaningful conversations with the Namingha family at Niman Fine Art, and explored SITE and the Vladem Contemporary through guided tours… not to mention the amazing food and drinks!

Beyond all the learning, I came away with new friendships and unforgettable memories.

Thank you @kirkpatrickfdn for making it all possible.

Toi toi toi to Patrick Womack, principal percussion, and to his fellow @ocupercussion alumni of the @okc_phil -- @jamiewindwhitmarsh (principal timpani), @steph_krichena (second percussion) and Roger Owens (third percussion) on tonight's concert! He notes: "Some pics of the set up for @codyfry with the @okc_phil this weekend. Great music! And yes, I get to play the typewriter."
