We are thrilled to announce our first Alien act @soundslikeshevek !!! 👽🏳️‍🌈

Shevek is perceived by most people as a clown, or at least somewhat clownish in nature, which is a shame because yes, they may be a clown but they were hoping to be a bit sneakier about it. Oh well. In many ways the public perception of them as a clown is unsurprising as they have often been found teching and performing with the Good Name Clown Collective, maintaining some sense of balance with the Upside Down Clowns, slapping sketches with SoreSlap Theatre Company (un-clown-relatedly but also quite clownishly), as well as popping up solo in various places doing their own odd things (not on a comedic path but enjoying their own humourous trajectory). And here they are again! Concocting absurd alien surreal silliness, with a hopepunk sense of wholesome.

Join us for some intergalactic spooky fun this Halloween at @alphabetti_theatre Thursday 31st October 🚀🪐

Come join our event at the Newcastle Apartheid Off Campus Encampment to raise awareness about the use of pinkwashing in the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and the co-opting of pride by companies who are complicit in the fight against Palestinian liberation

I recently found out about the passing of artist Lizzie Rowe…… I am absolutely gutted. She was undoubtedly one of my favourite artists and a supporter of my Culture Vulture platforms, since the beginning.

Big love for Lizzie. ❤️

Their work often explored gender, identity, sexuality, the romanticization of domestic life, mundaneness of domestic routines, and has put herself, and her lived experienced as a transgendered woman out into the world, and through her art. She was a honorary Geordie (originally from Portsmouth) and a Northern legend in my eyes. Kind, fair, and brilliant.

As well as solo exhibitions and numerous shows across her lifetime– including one in which she appeared alongside Grayson Perry and David Hockney – Lizzie has done many portrait commissions, both private and public, which hang in theatres, board rooms and universities regionally, Nationally and Internationally. I’ve seen her work in exhibitions many times, and it is always a treat.

“If art is mostly a matter of individual self-definition, then the painter Lizzie Rowe is a rare and exemplary artist.” – journalist Robert Clarke on Lizzie. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I hope there is a retrospective exhibition on the cards, as I’d love to see it.

It was two weeks ago tomorrow that we headed to the Pride Action North awards as nominees in the Third Sector Award and then came home winners!

It’s great that our allyship to the LGBTQIA+ community has been recognised and it was even more special to bring some of our young people to the event to celebrate the regional queer community, activism, projects and organisations!

We wish every Friday night was a Pride Action North extravaganza! 🤩🥳

Euphoria is gender neutral!

When I first saw the first photo, I cringed because I hated how my arms looked, but I look so happy in it so decided to tell that part of my brain to fuck off x

A few weeks ago we took part in an amazing photoshoot by @queerjoycaptured for the Ravens, our local inclusive team. They’ve managed to take incredible photos of our whole team, plus Paul and I turned up 🤣 couldn’t have hoped for better!
