Lifestyle Athlete Attributes: ground reaction and fast twitch Aging with durability and performance. Don’t skip the reactivity and plyometrics even if it starts with something like jump rope or simple hops and skips. One of my core life values is movement autonomy and durability to support performance. Evidence tells us that reaction time, ground reaction, speed, and fast twitch muscle fibers are the first to regress as we age. This regression has a strong direct correlation with likelihood for falls, and fractures, which are correlated with reduced healthspan and lifespan. Find a program or a licensed professional that can meet you where you are at. You can always build this system to a place that builds confidence. Send a 💯 if you made it this far. Stay Bouncy! Musings while walking… Guilty of killing time while sick and unable to sleep. I came across a post that jolted me into self-evaluation, and in a good way. Strong stuff SRC! There may be no better time than Holiday time to do an assessment of how I have been executing towards my core values. Where has attention been deflected in other directions? Where am I just frankly falling flat? How can I refocus that attention? In my medical practice, I lead with evidence, options, and education. This is supported by finding common ground with patients on Values and which treatment or lifestyle goals are the way to go. I’ve got my 👁️ on continuing to drive myself and my patients toward value-tuned living! Happy Holidays to everyone out there! Don’t let yourself be fooled! It is easy to get thrown off by what we perceive are negative or positive health behaviors. I have been thrown off equally as “bad” by good news and success as I have by bad news or doing something that is not aligned with my health related targets. Here are a few things I do for myself: 1. ACCEPT that I am NOT defined by either the “best” or “worst” health related decisions 2. Minimize the consecutive occurrences of those behaviors, aka “the SNOWBALL effect” 3. Avoid “BEHAVIOR BLEEDS”, aka One health Area Bleeds into another in a negative way. For example, your nutrition has been less than ideal so you don’t feel great, so you don’t go for your regularly scheduled walk. GO FOR THE WALK! If you found this helpful drop a 🤚 in the comments. Let me know what strategies you use to stay consistent with your health related behaviors. Get after it Lifestyle Athletes! The writing is on the wall. Embracing LLM’s and prompt engineering is a universally growing part of private practice and healthcare at large. As a naturopathic doctor and physician health coach, embracing AI software in contexts of medical charting, differential diagnoses, treatment algorithms, lifestyle medicine programming, nutrition, and exercise has been eye opening in so many ways. See my new blog post on how you can use prompt engineering and become the architect of your ideal nutrition strategy https://www.regenbar.com/blog/ai-powered-nutrition-engineering-your-path-to-optimal-health. #lifestylemedicine #physicianhealthcoach #naturopathicdoctor #functionalmedicine #

I can’t count how many times…. I’ve had some version of low to moderate grade quad/patellar tendonitis over the years. As a jumping athlete, it is all too common. Here are a couple of patterns I have used to build up to what is called a Sissy Squat. Which looks like the second video, just without the TRX or holding on to anything. The isometric or “overcoming” pattern with knees far over toes looks unorthodox, but if you look closer the knee angle is still around 90 degrees. The TRX assisted version is a much progressed version and can focus on the eccentric (downward phase) of the squat. Loading Quads at this angle is different and variable and can lead to strength in the quad tendon/patellar tendon complex. This can lead to more tolerance to strain via lifting, impact, running, jumping. AKA Durability In this case the best prevention for me has been a good offense with patterns like this. Start off within your abilities and work up on time and reps in the isometric or eccentric phases. If you made it this far, send a 💪 and comments! Get to work! Which is more worth your time? As any measured medical professional will tell you, when the answer is not 💯 clear…IT DEPENDS? Someone with “hypermobility” may need more local mobility work to emphasize control, stability, and strength at the end ranges of motion Someone with poor flexibility and mobility may benefit from equal time spent on both local and global mobility. Taking advantage of active, passive, loaded exercises to enhance tissue extensibility and changes in the fascia that allow more range of motion. Either way, All LIFESTYLE ATHLETES will benefit from both. Here are two exercises that appear unrelated. But in the end, controlled movement at the hip in isolation contributes to controlled movement at the hip in integration. If you made it to the end of this description, drop a 💯 in the comments. This is my morning routine… 7 minutes to better movement and control of just about every joint in your body. This is a hands and knees based version using principles from @functionalrangeconditioning and @drandreaspina Of course, this is also very much sped up. This type of mobility is high effort, low speed and works wonders as a check in for my body each day. What is your morning routine? Don’t forget these training buckets for performance aging! Movement and exercise types you need “more” of as you age: 1. True Mobility to be distinguished from flexibility 2. Speed/Agility/plyometric aka twitch 3. Relative Strength/Power to be distinguished from absolute strength/power 4. Cardiovascular power and VO2 Max - to be distinguished from the Zone 2 movement Learn more - Link in Bio! #lifestyleathlete #healthspan #longevity #naturopathicdoctor #movemementmedicine #performanceliving #regenbar #physicianhealthcoach

I don’t normally do this…. and by this I mean making Negative Listicles, but If you take or are thinking of taking probiotic supplements, you need to watch this…. The most common mistakes people make when taking probiotic supplements: 1. Too Many Strains in the Pill = QS Failure. 2. Doses are too low 3. Taking with food and other Supplements 4. Taking Strains without a targeted outcome 5. Not using Spore-Based probiotics in the formulation 6. Taking the same probiotics everyday for months or even years (ie AG1, and other mixed nutrient products) Please watch the full video for context and more information on each of the above In the end, probiotic supplementation should be symptom or condition targeted and time bound with a transition to fermented foods. Get guidance from a trained professional. In some cases a diagnostic stool analysis or GI Map is indicated help guide bacterial strain repopulation, however that is best discussed with a medical provider. I hope you have found this perspective helpful. If so, please take a moment to like, follow, and share.
