Montréal, you were good to us.

We made the trip over for @offf.montreal where Oli took the stage to tell the story behind Uncommon. The good bits, the hard bits, the work we’re proud of and plenty of what happened in between.

More than anything, it was an honest account of the last five years and the people, projects and pivotal moments that have shaped the studio along the way.

The talk was one part of it.

We met some brilliant people from across the creative world, caught up with familiar faces, spent time with members of our team we don’t get to see nearly enough, and made the most of Montréal in between.

It’s pretty special to take something we’ve built together in Melbourne and share it on the other side of the world.

A story about depth, care and quality, respecting every craft and showing love to the parts others might walk past.

We came home with new friends, plenty of ideas and very glad we made the trip.

We’d happily do it all again.

I’ve spoken in front of people before, but never quite like this.

A few months ago, I started preparing a talk for @offf.montreal. What followed was a lot of writing, rewriting, second-guessing, practising, cutting things out, putting them back in and trying to work out how to tell a story that felt honest.

Because a lot of it was personal.

I spoke about things that have shaped me, the studio and the way I think about the work. I also had the chance to share projects my team and I have worked on over the years, which felt pretty special in itself.

By the time I got to Montréal, I was excited, nervous and genuinely terrified I wouldn’t deliver it the way I wanted to.

Then I walked on stage and did it.

I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity, and even more thankful for the people who helped me get there.

Alyson, Matt, Manny, Dominik, Josip, Ander and Larissa, every one of you played a part in this talk; sharpening the story, pulling content together and making sure I was ready.

And my wife, Saskia, for holding the fort back home while I keep pursuing this slightly mad dream of telling the story behind Uncommon. I couldn’t do any of this without you.

A lot went into this one.

This series for @letsdwellau is a look at the work behind the work; the moving, adjusting, testing and resetting that happens before a few seconds ever make it into the final cut.
Setting the scene. Shifting furniture. Chasing the right light. Moving something back, then forward again.

A lot of it is the kind of work most people will never see. But it’s where the care sits.

We wanted the final films to feel quiet, familiar and lived in. Getting there meant showing love to the parts others might walk past.

A little behind the scenes from the shoot, alongside where all that work ended up.

Earlier this year, @comma_projects and I caught up to talk about the design process behind @zoei_bycomma . We talked about the benefits of a clearly defined brief, the collaborative nature of sketching and the importance of good communication. For now, here is a beautiful highlight reel created by @rissvisualstudio that perfectly captured the dissolving of boundaries between inside and outside.

Conversations in Barcelona 🇪🇸

A few days built around good people and new ideas.

We met with the team at Paradiso Institute to talk about a collaboration later this year, hosted a meetup with creatives we’d only connected with online, and spent the final day exploring the city and capturing content.

Lucky to have some beautiful new experiences and stories to bring home.

First time in the city and first time at @d_and_ad Festival for the team.

Days spent immersed in keynotes, workshops, conversations and a closer look at how award-winning work is shaped, challenged and judged on the global stage.

We caught up with friends, explored the city and found @banksy’s latest installation along the way.

The jetlag is real, but worth it.
