Connecting Collections : Mountain Aids

IMAGE 3 @jmillarstudio Jane Millar:
Since seeing a group of shepherds’ crooks at Documenta a few years ago and after acquiring a yellow mountain walking stick from Viggiano, Southern Italy, on a great day out with @maccogliandrino I created an installation titled ‘The Visitor’ which includes two stick-like earthenware and stoneware glazed wall-based sculptures each about 120 cm tall. They are currently on show on Between the Floor and the Wall @thamessidestudiosse18. My work marvels over human, more-than-human and speculative post-human imagination and technologies along with an anxiety about swifts returning each summer.

These are my aunt’s maps, guides and brochures to the mountains of Pakistan, India and Nepal from the 1960’s and ‘70’s, which I’m the lucky owner of now. She worked in Pakistan in the ‘70’s, and travelled in the Himalayas during that period. I dream of going to the region, I wonder if I ever will?
