🎵 THE PRODIGY – YOUR LOVE
📀 XL Recordings | XLT-21 | 1991

🖤 THE RECORD WHERE THEIR STORY BEGAN AND SO DID OURS 🥹

Before Firestarter. Before Breathe. Before global domination, The Prodigy carried Britain’s underground rave energy into the studio.

On 12 August 1991, Charly arrived and climbed to No.3 in the UK chart. But hidden on the B-side was something deeper.

YOUR LOVE.

Liam Howlett knew Charly’s cartoon sample risked trapping them as a novelty act, so he made the flip radically different: euphoric piano, rushing breaks, sirens and a vocal floating above it all like a memory.

Melody with velocity. Emotion built for warehouses.

Hardcore discovering how beautiful it could be.

🤯 And here’s the incredible part…

In Howlett’s FIRST-EVER music-press interview, published as Charly was released, he described Your Love as its uplifting, melodic counterweight.

He also captured The Prodigy’s purpose in one perfect idea:

“GETTING THE BUZZ OF A RAVE ONTO VINYL.”

That is exactly what this record did.

🧬 DEEP VAULT DETAIL: Sample researchers trace the “Your Love” vocal to Circuit featuring Koffi’s 1990 house record Shelter Me. Its shimmering chords trace back to Spectrum’s Brazil, while the sirens came from the Megabass 1 sample library.

Liam fused house, techno, hip-hop and rave into something unmistakably his own.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: This was one of the very first records in my collection and one I learned to mix with on my friend’s turntables.

Before Vanguard. Before Watersplash. Before Amsterdam. Before hundreds of events and three decades bringing this culture to Jersey… there was a young raver learning to cue, count and blend with Your Love beneath the needle.

I had no idea where that moment would lead. I only knew how it felt when two records locked together.

Everything afterwards can be traced back to moments like this.

Not simply a record from my collection.

A PIECE OF MY BEGINNING.

🖤 ONE RECORD. TWO TURNTABLES. THE START OF A LIFETIME.

35 YEARS LATER… I CAN STILL HEAR THE FUTURE OPENING.

✨ Some records make an impact… others become timeless dancefloor moments.

🎵 Drumsound & Simon Bassline Smith - The Odyssey
📀 Prototype Recordings | 2004

Released on Grooverider’s legendary Prototype Recordings in 2004, The Odyssey cemented Drumsound & Simon Bassline Smith’s reputation as two of the most exciting producers of the era. Combining soaring cinematic atmospheres, thunderous basslines and precision-engineered drums, the track perfectly captured the energy and ambition of early-2000s DNB.

Championed by Grooverider and regularly featured on his BBC Radio 1 show, The Odyssey became an instant favourite with DJs and ravers alike. More than two decades later, it remains a benchmark for euphoric, high-energy Drum & Bass and a shining example of why Prototype Recordings became one of the genre’s most influential labels.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: Before Vanguard DNB, founder DJ Fire warmed up for Simon Bassline Smith at the legendary Movement at Bar Rumba, London - one of the UK’s most iconic Drum & Bass club nights. Experiences like these helped shape the foundations of Vanguard and its passion for original underground cutting edge music.

🖤 Some tunes ignite a dancefloor… others become part of Drum & Bass history.

✨ Some records don’t just stand the test of time… they redefine what’s possible

🎵 DJ Krust – Soul In Motion
📀 Full Cycle | 1997

When Soul In Motion landed in 1997, jungle music was evolving at an incredible pace. Stretching beyond 10 minutes, Krust ignored the rules of conventional dance music and delivered an epic journey through deep atmospheres, intricate rhythms and hypnotic grooves. It wasn’t built for radio—it was built for people who lived and breathed the underground.

Raised on Bristol’s Knowle West estate, Krust became one of the architects of the city’s unmistakable sound. Alongside Roni Size and DJ Die, he helped build V Recordings, launched the legendary Full Cycle Records, and later became a key member of the Reprazent collective. His music proved that Drum & Bass could be every bit as artistic as it was powerful.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: We were incredibly proud to welcome DJ Krust to Jersey, bringing one of the true pioneers of the Bristol movement to the Island. Sharing artists like Krust with local crowds has always been at the heart of what Vanguard DNB is about celebrating the innovators who shaped the music we love.

🖤 Some tracks are played… others are experienced.

🔥💿 Digging deep into the crates and pulling out a true jungle gem 💿🔥

This vinyl is a proper piece of UK rave and jungle history. Released in 1995, ‘Some Justice 95’ by Urban Shakedown (aka Arsonist) featured the unmistakable vocals of DBO General, who was also our 2nd ever UK guest to ever perform in Jersey. He hosted L Double at a club called Vespas in St Helier 🇯🇪🎤🙌

Urban Shakedown was made up of producers Gavin King (better known as Aphrodite) and Claudio Giussani, and they’re probably best known for their legendary tracks ‘Some Justice’ (1991) and ‘Bass Shake’ (1992), both created alongside Michael Hearn, better known as Micky Finn. 🔥🎶

This particular record celebrates the original ‘Some Justice’ before the later remixes, capturing that raw underground energy that helped shape the jungle scene in its early years. Over 30 years later, it still sounds absolutely incredible and reminds us why these records became staples of dance floors across the UK and beyond. 🔊💥

A timeless piece of vinyl history and a special reminder of a landmark moment for Jersey’s underground music scene. Massive respect to everyone who was there and helped build those memories. 🖤💿

Without a doubt my most treasured record/dubplate/vinyl with such a great story.

In 2002 Fabio came to play a sellout Watersplash and surprised me and gave me this dubplate of the Bad Company remix of Mo'Fire (originally called Start the Fire) this was about 6 months before the official release. This was also the time Fab & Groove were smashing the airwaves with their weekly show on Radio One and I think this got about 5 rewinds haha. Bigups Fabio

Sending love to all Cheeky Family today who celebrate a huge milestone within Drum and Bass history. 20 years strong and the world's longest running weekly DNB event. Big ups to Loz and all the team, was a pleasure to play a part in the story being a resident from the humble beginnings (Terminal State/Fire & Snare) 💛
