🌊🇿🇦 A MOVEMENT IS MAKING WAVES IN SOUTH AFRICA!

Soweto Swim School had the incredible pleasure of hosting Jamal Hill and the SwimUpHill Foundation as we proudly launched the 1 Million Swimmers Movement right here in South Africa.
Jamal is a two-time Paralympian, Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, and founder of SwimUpHill. Diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease at age 10, he faced a journey that challenged his relationship with swimming—but transformed those challenges into a purpose: helping make swimming and water safety accessible to millions. They said he’d never swim. Now he’s teaching one million people how. One swimmer’s comeback became a method for millions. The mission is bigger than any one person.

Now, together with Soweto Swim School, that purpose is reaching South Africa—using swimming not only as a sport, but as a life skill, a pathway to confidence, and a tool for water safety and opportunity.

This is more than a partnership. It’s the beginning of a movement. 🌍🏊🏾‍♂️
Follow Soweto Swim School and @swim.up.hill to follow the journey, support the mission, and help us make waves across Africa. 🌊
🇿🇦 1 Million Swimmers Africa — every stroke counts.

World Cup kickoff this week, 2028 Summer Games two years out…

The power of sport is stronger than ever in LA and is such an incredible driver of community, diplomacy, and commerce.

To champion this impact, our Local Action Marketing team was proud to partner with Michelle Edgar and Ben Reiss at The Community Collective and California State Treasurer Fiona Ma to kickoff a new speaker series bringing together leaders from business, government, tourism and international affairs. Held at Blankspaces Venice, speakers and guests honed in on sports as a catalyst to shape the future of LA, and bridge global communities closer together leading up to and beyond 2028.

To mark this moment and many more moments leading up to 208, we were also proud to debut a very exclusive hoodie collab with LCKN titled the 2028 collection. More details to share soon.

Shoutout to the speakers:

Australian Consul General Tanya Bennett, Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for International Affairs Dilpreet Sidhu, Adam Burke of LA Tourism; Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ron Frierson; Bank of America Head of Sports and Entertainment Marketing Cynthia Thomas, and Los Angeles City Councilmember Traci Park.

On-site Local Action Marketing stunt team: Ryan Bowling, Christoph Besmer, Derek Daugherty, Lawrence Moore, Taku Imasaki

Join the movement!

South Africa x USA = united to help teach 1 million annually to swim and curb the silent drowning epidemic.

A landmark partnership is now underway between team members, Tumi Masekela and @ryanjbowling, and decorated Paralympian and LA28 athlete ambassador @swimuphill. Together, Jamal's Swim Up Hill Foundation and Tumi's Soweto Swim School will partner closely to expand access to swimming across South African townships.

This partnership goes beyond access to helping save lives and unlocking the full potential within communities - creating pathways to Olympic and Paralympic dreams.

And as we approach LA 2028, this collaboration demonstrates how the power of sport can bridge continents and create lasting change.
