I have post @jacksonwildorg blues after spending a week in Jackson, WY, being amongst such talented friends, peers, and filmmakers.

I haven’t been back since I was a media lab fellow in 2019, which kicked off started my career in SciComm. I was nervous to return with huge imposter syndrome weighing on my shoulders. But ultimately it felt like coming home to community where I got to be inspired and uplifted by new and old friends.

Super grateful for this community and forever grateful to be a part of it.

Jackson Wild 2025! (AKA Summer Camp)

To say my heart is full would be an understatement. This past week volunteering at the Jackson Wild Summit meant everything to me. I am beyond grateful to have spent a full week surrounded by talented, kind, and hard-working people. In the current state of the world, it’s important to keep people like those I met and reconnected with close, to work together, and make some meaningful work.

My mentor (and friend) @rosanna.xia really did say it best, “It’s sometimes more important to give people courage than hope.” I can’t agree more with that statement and I’m holding it close to my heart as I continue to transition in this new phase of life and pursue this career in storytelling.

Thank you to EVERYONE! I’ll see y’all in two years at summer camp.🫶

Introducing “IYO ANG DAGAT (The Sea Is Yours),” a 2025 Jackson Wild x Earth Alliance Impact Pitch finalist!

Centered around the Sulu Sea, which is part of the Sulu-Sulawesi marine ecoregion, this film directed by Sally Snow, features two Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs) in the Philippines and spotlights threatened species including Oceanic and Reef Manta Rays, Tiger Sharks, Whale Sharks and reef sharks.

The film tells the stories of people interacting with sharks and rays in their everyday lives. By elevating local voices, IYO ANG DAGAT highlights community-led efforts to safeguard sharks and rays and advocates for marine wildlife tourism guidelines to support sustainable livelihoods while protecting sharks and rays.

The film’s impact campaign aims to enhance protections for sharks and rays in Palawan, Philippines, by shifting public attitudes and increasing ecological understanding to advance locally- compatible and community-led conservation solutions, while supporting sustainable livelihoods and reducing human-wildlife conflict.

PIWEFF Official Selection: Indus Blues
Directed by the renowned Jawad Sharif

"Indus Blues" is a powerful tribute to Pakistan’s endangered folk music traditions. Journeying along the mighty Indus River, from the towering Karakoram Mountains to the vast southern coastline, the film captures the haunting melodies and struggles of folk artists fighting to keep their ancient art forms alive.

Despite the Indus region’s incredible diversity — with over 70 spoken languages and centuries-old cultural roots — the soulful sounds of traditional instruments are fading under the pressure of modern musical trends. *Indus Blues* gives a voice to these unsung heroes, reminding us of what the world is about to lose.

Jawad Sharif, an award-winning filmmaker, TED Fellow, and National Geographic Explorer, masterfully portrays the beauty, resilience, and humanism of Pakistan’s diverse cultures. With numerous global awards and recognitions to his name, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Guam International Film Festival and the PSL Our Heroes Award, Jawad continues to push the boundaries of storytelling with his focus on social change, human rights, and indigenous identities.

Catch "Indus Blues" at PIWEFF and experience the soul of Pakistan like never before.
