CLEVELAND: More photos from yesterday’s march marking One Year of Genocide, One Year of Resistance.

The people of Cleveland have shown that they refuse to abandon the people of Palestine, whether in the West Bank or Gaza, and Lebanon. Our Cleveland community who has mobilized for the past year showed up powerfully demonstrating that from Cleveland to Palestine and Cleveland to Beirut, we are unified. We will continue to confront zionism wherever it is whether in the diaspora or in our homeland.

As long as our people continue the struggle against occupation, colonialism, and imperialism, we in Cleveland will be there to support them. 🇵🇸🇱🇧

photography is better shared 🫶

here is a short list of some of my favorite people that remind me the joy of capturing the world, there are tens more. solitude is the death of my creativity and I am so grateful for the community around me that keeps this spark alive :)

the first photo is by @juliantanaph. He caught me thinking about how happy it made me that photography has connected me with so many strangers around the world. I’d met Julian five minutes prior and already knew we would be lifelong friends — here’s to many more Manhattan shoots x

shoutout to photography and shoutout to you.
together we make the arts thrive.

HELLO!

If we have not yet been formally introduced, my name is Sam. I am a photographer currently living in Southern California. Photography has been the great love of my life — something I have always chased, fallen back to, and found myself in.

When I was nine years old, I was given a coupon for free magazine subscriptions. After twelve months, I had collected a drawer of surf photography, a stack too large to carry. I practiced holding my breath for the day I would be in the water with them.

When I was eleven years old, I founded an Etsy shop. It made me the money I used to travel for the first times, and taught me the vital blend of passion to a craft and hard work (and how to avoid copyright claims).

When I was fourteen years old, I wrote. I connected with hundreds of people over our unique blends of words and photos, experimenting with syntax and exposure settings. Eventually, the paragraphs grew shorter and the photos more crisp. I decided that this was my path: first, and foremost, I would be a photographer.

When I was eighteen years old, I moved across the world. I changed my instagram username, packed up my life, and moved to Switzerland for university. It took two weeks to find a lifelong photographer friend whose creativity breathed vigor back into my soul. In the year that I struggled to keep breathing, taking photos reminded me that I wanted to.

When I was nineteen years old, I moved back to California. Too sick to continue living alone, I moved home to a place I had begrudgingly learned to love. I reminded myself that throughout each struggle in my life, my creativity was a constant positive force. I decided that for one year, I would grow as a person and as a photographer more than I ever had in my life. And I did. And I will continue to.

Today, I am a photographer. When I introduce myself, that is what I say — I only started about two months ago — my friends said it for me for years before then. I am also a student, I work two jobs I love, and most importantly, I am happy. Happy to be in California, happy to be creating, happy to be alive.
