MAURICE SLEEVE.

Another angle of Maurice’s sleeve.
Around 70% of this sleeve was drawn freehand directly on the skin.

This is one of my interpretations of translating Balinese carvings, like those found in temples and houses, into tattoo form.

Balinese carvings can be quite complex, but for me, there is always a flow within all those details, something I really enjoy exploring and bringing into a smaller scale.

The idea It’s a bit like when I see the temple in Bali. You can see the main figure, such as Boma, surrounded by layers of Pepatraan and Keketusan ornaments. There is so much going on, yet everything has its own place and connects together.

Thank you again, Maurice, for the trust and all the great conversations along the way, from music, train, and journey to motorcycles.

See you around! 🤘🏽

MAURICE’S SLEEVE.

Completing a sleeve is always exciting for me. Figuring out how everything flows, wraps around the arm, and connects together to make one complete piece.

We started this sleeve earlier this year in Bali at @sekala369 and finished it in the Netherlands 🇳🇱.

If I remember correctly, it took around 5 sessions in total, mostly around 4 hours each.
The first two sessions were done back to back, two days in a row in Bali.

Satisfied so far. Can’t wait to see it all healed up! 🤘🏽

Around 3 hours of tattooing to bring this piece together.

Thank you Rua, for the request and trust. Safe travels, and see you in Singapore! 🇸🇬🤘🏽

BATIK.

Freehand drawn on skin for Doni’s half sleeve.

Inspired by traditional Indonesian ornaments, combining motifs with batik patterns such as Parang, Kawung, and Mega Mendung.

Two days back to back, around 9 hours of tattooing in total.
We worked on the outer arm on the first day and finished the inner arm on the second.

Not an easy two days, but Doni handled it really well!

Once again, terima kasih banyak Doni.

Inspired by a character depicted on the cover of Terry Pratchett’s novel Reaper Man, standing on Frangipani flower ornaments for @jeff.putera.

The “kipas” batik motif was done a couple of months ago.
This time, we added two “melati” flowers, also dedicated to her roots.

Terima kasih Mba, for the trust and the great chat around music. Till the next one ☝🏽
