34 weeks. Halfway through the 3rd trimester… maybe. I think this little one I’m carrying may join us early. In about six weeks, or less, our family is going to double in size.

We’re doing the most to soak in every precious moment, so making content here hasn’t been top of the list… but when one of yall nudged us for an update, I thought “damn, how cool is that?!” We feel so loved and supported.

So here’s the update:

Babies and mamas are both doing great. This one kicks like she’s got a bone to pick, and the one Erica is carrying is much calmer. We constantly wonder if their personalities will reflect that.

28 weeks: We took a spontaneous babymoon up the coast- 8 hrs to SF and Monterey. Talked about it at 9 pm on a Friday and left at 6 the next morning. We hung with fam, befriended a few giraffes, and developed an increasing awareness of being fully pregnant… aka we tried to walk three miles to dinner and had to stop multiple times to pee or rest our hips. And started playing rock-paper-scissors to see who had to get up to grab the magnesium (I won).

30 weeks: A stranger FINALLY asked me when I’m due. No, I do not endorse this behavior but omg I was PUMPEDDDDDD. Sir at the farmers market, I had been waiting for you, you beautiful godsent angel.

31 weeks: We celebrated the girls at our baby shower and I actually had a blast. I say “actually” because I’d never liked baby showers, but wow… we have rad people in our lives who are so fun to hang with. So maybe I like baby showers now?

32 weeks: We started pelvic floor pt preventively and would highly recommend. And we’re back on our hypnobirthing game as the dates get closer. Andddd we started our death planning stuff since my amazing wife is also a death doula — real talks and advanced directives.

33 weeks: we finally inventoried and set up some of the baby stuff with the help of friends of course. Waiting for that nesting instinct to kick in…. Any day now. I hope.

Up next? Probs gonna share more about how we feel about heading into postpartum together bc that seems to be the biggest question, and talk about who our community is.

Pose: Mountain (Tadasana)
It looks like you’re just standing there, but Mountain is the blueprint for nearly every pose. Forward folds, warriors, backbends, inversions: they all borrow their alignment from Mountain. It’s stillness AND strength. Weather (thoughts, stress, emotion) passes over the peak, the mountain always stays.

Word: Grounding
Coming back to the present through something solid; the ground beneath you, your breath, your body. When we’re stressed, we live from the neck up. Grounding brings us back down, into the body, into the now.

Mountain pose is grounding in its most literal form.

Find it woven through all class styles this month.

🙏 Where are you from?
ocean city nj! no wonder the small beach town energy of ob feels like home.

🙏 Where and when did your yoga journey begin?
my first experience was a power flow class at 22. in my 20’s i was drawn to fast flows in dark rooms to quiet my busy brain. the more I’ve dropped into my breath & body to slow down, the more my practice has too.

🙏 How long have you been teaching?
a year and a half of yoga + I’ve been guiding deep self healing breathwork for 5 years now. i feel grateful to have a solid foundation in pranayama on & off the mat.

🙏 What does yoga mean to you?
yoga is connection — with myself through mind, body and spirit, with the land and with the collective. yoga is a practice in taking care of each other, just as much as taking care of ourselves.

🙏 What three words capture your teaching style?
authentic, grounded, balanced.

🙏 What is your favorite thing about Indie Yoga?
the students! i love getting to hold space for all of you.

🙏 What’s one yoga insight or reminder you’d like to share?
you’ll probably hear me teach to the power of embracing abhinivesha — the fear of death and change. as a cancer survivor, i was confronted with it first hand through my diagnosis. surrendering to impermanence — big & small — leaves so much more space for ease in our lives.

🙏 Which song never fails to move you and your students?
“the rising” by essie jain is a yin staple and I love “soothe” by random rab for a slow flow.

Just like that we’re in the third trimester. I don’t know where time went.

I tried to explain the feeling of pregnancy to a friend (a feeling I imagine most expecting parents experience), but it’s hard to find words. Here’s what I have:

We are about to experience the most dramatic change of our lifetimes:
from “should we read or nap?” to “….?” (“Where the fuck is the diaper cream? And when will they stop crying?”)

From work stress being the hardest thing, to keeping two other humans alive.

We have no way to comprehend what it will feel like. Hearsay means nothing till you experience it yourself.

The strangest part is the anticipation: there’s a rough clock counting us down. We KNOW this change is coming, unlike most major life changes (car crashes or winning the lottery). This known change is bigger than any graduation, job change, or relationship starting or ending. It’s a fundamental transformation, even on a cellular level (matriescence).

There’s no word for this feeling. It’s fleeting: it comes in flashes when you remember there’s a literal human in your stomach, not just that pizza you ate an hour ago. It stops you in your tracks, and all you can say is “wow,” followed by some four-letter word… not from fear or regret, but unfathomable, speechless amazement.

I’m convinced our brains can’t register this depth of transformation, because it’s so sacred. It’s felt. For the rest of this pregnancy, my intention is to fully feel it, to be so present that it’s seared into my body’s memory till the very end.

There is nothing like it.

One unrelated thing: it’s been so cool to start sharing my inner thoughts with the world in writing. I’ve written about pregnancy and body image, looking queer, and a few other personal topics.

A handful of you have reached out because you can relate, and that’s made this creative effort so worth it, albeit vulnerable. If that’s you, thank you ❤️❤️

Nearly 24 weeks and feeling full, in all the ways. I’m home from what seems like a months of traveling and feeling very ready to get settled into our new spot.

I have started to feel the sweet little girl I’m carrying move around. It’s magical and I finally understand what people say that it feels like gas. I got to feel the sweetie Margaret is carrying a few weeks back, and it was equally as magical.

I have stepped away from coaching and it’s very bittersweet. I have loved being part of everyone’s lives and training over the years at CFEC and Earned Fitness. Thank you to each and everyone of you who have welcomed me into your lives and trusted me to be your coach. I felt so loved, appreciated and supported as I made this tough decision to step away from coaching and focus on building this beautiful family with Mags.

Portland. We had the most incredible time.

The food was yummy, the weather was spectacular, and the BLS immersion was honestly one of my favorites in this entire journey.

I walked away with so much confidence in the breath workers we have out there representing BLS and holding brave space. Watching the facilitators show up for one another, connect, and find the things they had in common, it was something special to witness.

and it was so fun for me to hold space in person. we did three-part breath, conscious connected breathwork, and @wakingmagicwithin led trance dance. It was a weekend I will not forget.

This trip gave me so much fuel. to keep showing up, to keep building this community, and to keep offering in-person training weekends.

it's beautiful that the healing industry provides so many pathways for people to learn and share modalities that can change people's lives. academia and licensing isn't always accessible - financially energetically. there's nothing like burning out a practitioner before they start than my expecting them to work for free just to be validated in their profession.

and also, it's important to know who you're working with and what trainings they're taken. the unregulated nature of the industry leaves serious gaps in a lot of training programs - especially around ethics, boundaries and the energetic aspects of the work.

not to mention, all the credentials in the world don't matter if you're not embodying your own practices and alchemizing your lived experience.

it all matters and i will quite literally never stop learning and growing as a practitioner.
