Our annual collaborative residency program is back! For the next two months, Cemeti Institut is home to five artists in residence — each joining us through different institutional collaborations. The artist in residence this season: Shivay La Multiple – France Nguyen Trinh Thi – Vietnam Miyu Hosoi – Japan Widi Asari – Indonesia Luo Yanze (Justin) – Taiwan They’ll spend their time in Yogyakarta researching, connecting, and getting to know the city’s vibrant art scene. We would like to say thank you to all the collaborator institutions: Institute Français Indonesie, Cité Internationale des Art, Natasha Sidharta, SAM Fund for Art and Ecology, Japan Foundation, and Taiwan Art Space Alliance. Shivay La Multiple, born in 1993, works between Paris, Nouméa in New Caledonia/Kanaky, the digital sphere, and rivers. In their practice, Shivay La Multiple teaches reason the language of dreams. Through multiple media, they create lines of flight towards unexplored worlds, multiverses, and pluriverses. Like a Möbius strip, their research moves from the global to the visceral, from the macro to the micro, from dreams to reality, and from the physical to the digital. They draw inspiration from the concept of the poetics of relation while remaining influenced by the many places they have travelled through. During the residency, Shivay La Multiple explores the rivers of Java and the ways in which they connect volcanoes to the ocean, carrying not only water, sediments, and volcanic ash, but also stories, beliefs, memories, and human practices. Their work has been presented at Tropiques Atrium in Fort-de-France for the exhibition "Hado: The Powers of Water"; at "Festival Nova XXX" in Paris; in "Águas Subterrâneas: Narrativas de Confluências" at Instituto Tomie Ohtake and Frac Angoulême; in "Crossing the water", part of the emerging artists programme of the Lyon Biennale at IAC in Villeurbanne; and through the Kochi Biennale residency programme. This residency is a collaboration between Cemeti Institute for Art and Society, Institut français d’Indonésie, and the Cité internationale des arts. Nguyen Trinh Thi is a Hanoi-based filmmaker and artist. Traversing boundaries

𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐄 / 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 - 𝐒’𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐑 🤝 Rendez-vous / Join us on Tuesday, September 22 from 6pm at the Centre d’art de la @maisonpopulaire for the opening of S’ENGAGER, the third and final exhibition of the cycle 𝔸𝕄𝕀𝕋𝕀É𝕊 𝔸𝕄𝕆𝕌ℝ𝕊 𝔸𝔽𝔽𝕀ℕ𝕀𝕋É𝕊. In the first two chapters of the cycle, curators @fanny.testas & @linegigs developed a curatorial research project around chosen relationships. This final chapter shifts the notion of affinity elsewhere, towards the material, living and non-human attachments that make up our lives. Rather than “celebrating the living world”, the exhibition explores the invisible and asymmetrical relationships through which our lives are composed. The artists brought together in the exhibition work against a modern imaginary that reduces the world to a set of available resources. Their works sharpen our attention to the vitality of the beings, materials and systems that surround us. They trace these attachments and unsettle the seemingly self-evident divisions between subject and object, without personifying non-human beings or erasing the power relations that structure these relationships. 💫 Curatrices / Curators: Fanny Testas & Line Gigs 🎨 Artistes présenté·e·x·s / Artists: @ireneabello, @etrangersurterre, @shivay_la_multiple, @marine.prunier, @rozy_tergemin_sapelkine, @ebethstephens & @anniesprinkled 🔧 Dispositif scénographique / Exhibition design: Dominique Mathieu 🖍️ Graphisme / Graphic design: @studio_kiosk 𝙸𝚗𝚏𝚘𝚜 𝚙𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚚𝚞𝚎𝚜 / 𝙿𝚛𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕 𝚒𝚗𝚏𝚘 🗓️ Vernissage / Opening — Tuesday, September 22, 2026 🕡 6–9pm 🎟️ ENTRÉE LIBRE & SANS RÉSERVATION / FREE ENTRY, NO BOOKING REQUIRED — OPEN TO ALL 📍 Maison Populaire — 9 bis rue Dombasle, 93100 Montreuil Et RDV / Save the date: Friday, December 11 for the event accompanying the exhibition! ✨ #Montreuil #Vernissage #Exposition #Art #Artcontemporain #Centredart #Amitiés

#Montreuil #Vernissage #Exposition #Art #Artcontemporain #Centredart #Amitiés

Some residencies continue long after the artist has left, through the conversations, collaborations and works they bring into the world. During her Villa Swagatam residency, Shivay La Multiple (@shivay_la_multiple) developed a practice rooted in riverine ecologies, tracing connections between the Amazon, Africa and South India. Through research, travel and dialogue, her work explored memory, ecology and the movement of water across cultures and landscapes. The residency culminated in an installation presented at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (December 12, 2025 - March 31, 2026) (@kochibiennale), where these encounters took sculptural form through the figure of the water hyacinth. Bringing together local context with years of research, the project reflected the spirit of exchange that lies at the heart of Villa Swagatam, where artistic practice grows through place, collaboration and shared knowledge. . . .
