📌Talk: Black Academia in white institution mit Martha Laraba Sambe & Dean
🗓️MI. 11.02. um 18:00 Uhr
🗣️Sprache: Englisch
🎟️ Eintritt: Kostenlos
📍Kwanzaa Bookshop
Am Dobben 64, 28203 Bremen (nicht barrierefrei)

This conversation brings together two Black scholars to reflect on how German academic and cultural institutions shape Black lives, work, and ways of knowing. Moving between personal experience and broader structural analysis, the dialogue examines academic hierarchies and gatekeeping not as accidents, but as systems intentionally designed to include some and exclude others.

Rather than offering fixed conclusions, the speakers explore how categories of difference are produced and maintained in everyday institutional and civic life, and how these dynamics are felt, navigated, and contested from within academia. Together, they unpack the intrepid ways Black academics persevere and resist expectations of extractability, exclusion, and the delegitimisation of their knowledge—holding space for both critique and possibility.

🎙️ Martha Laraba Sambe @smlaraba 🎙️

A student of life and love, Martha Laraba Sambe is a multi-hyphenate queer creative from Northern Nigeria.
As a researcher, Laraba has tackled social and development issues in Nigeria, becoming the first Development Columnist for Stears, a Nigerian media publication cum market intelligence agency. She has also lent her expertise to research projects analyzing south-south migration funded by the Council for Development of Social Research in Africa and the Canadian Center for Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration, respectively. Laraba has also supported the research and archival work of queer language in Nigeria.
In addition to weaving together stories from her life, which will feed into a memoir, Laraba’s first book, she continues to explore, initiate, and lead conversations about indigenous African spirituality as a basis for wholeness, community care, and the preservation of nature. Laraba is self-proclaimed animist and an advocate for right action.

We are highly excited to have Laraba with us during the festival! Check out our programme online for more info! ✨

These are some impressions of the last day of the A Wa Nibi family at @kampnagel 💟

@martha created a cozy safer space for the participants at her workshop on how to include wellness into their daily lives.
During thier kitchen session @avrinaprabalajoslin and @pastonoiseau shared some very personal poetry with us, while @benson.aky enchanted us with his performance SANCTUARYIE.
@ybnlprincess created an intimate atmosphere with her beautiful voice & @djwaxs_hh closed the day with the QUEER AFRO NIGHT
