Membrane is open through September 6. Membrane is a container of life and potential. It is a permeable zone of exchange where what is and what can be is most alive. This show brings together twelve artists whose work inhabits the charged space between states: between stillness and motion, object and subject, arrival and departure, image and matter, threat and beauty, presence and disappearance. They occupy the threshold itself - the held moment within transformation, where meaning is most unstable and most dense. They do not resolve. They contain. Membrane is staged in a fitting space that has always existed as a passage in-between. New works by John Aslanidis are now available online at Gallery 144 ✨ Sonic Terrain no. 1 and no. 2 are part of a body of work Aslanidis has developed since the early 1990s. Shaped by his background in jazz and music theory, the series brings together sound and vision through mathematical intervals, concentric structures and carefully sequenced colour. His work is held in the collections of QAGOMA, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Artbank and Arts Centre Melbourne, and he was included in Melbourne Now at the National Gallery of Victoria. Announcing twenty new trax across five four-track vinyl EPs... Since archival tracks were released on the 2020 Moiré one EP, we’ve been inspired to make new material. Studios have been rebuilt, old gear restored, signature techniques revived and expanded upon, new ideas developed. Our archive has doubled. We played the Vibe Tribe reunion, we played at the Bob Moog's Picnic in Sydney Park, both motivating fresh produce. The sounds that define what Telharmoneom is are no longer just what happened in the 90s. Over the past six months we’ve whittled this new batch of stuff down to twenty tracks we’re happy to share, and these will be released across five follow up EPs over the coming year… starting with Moiré two and Moiré three! As was the case with Moiré one, each release will feature artwork by close friend, collaborator and internationally renowned painter John Aslanidis. One hundred limited edition copies of each EP will be made available for the Australian market. Coming this year to Footscray is Cine Redux: Reimagining Footscray. A journey through Footscray’s cinematic past and its creative present. Hosted by Five Walls Gallery and Arcade Projects, CineRedux: Footscray Reimagined blends history, film, and contemporary art to revisit the suburb’s once-vibrant cinema culture through archival materials, local stories, and new artistic responses. Centred around the historic Trocadero Arcade, CineRedux will present an immersive evening of art, projections, and live performances spanning the arcade, Five Walls Gallery (located above the arcade), and the building’s exterior. Highlights include a series of lightboxes by local artist Sean Hogan, with performances by Footscray artists and musicians Artificial Limb (Marc Eiden) , Ivofonic (Ivano Abram), John Aslanidis and Sydney based artist Mark Booth with Uk sound artist Brian May. The main event unfolds in June, with the project extending into Melbourne Open House Weekend on July 26, featuring guided tours and guest talks that bring Footscray’s forgotten theatres back to life, as artists reimagine how moving images continue to shape the suburb’s cultural identity today.
