The One Where Gramps Met First Time Flyers…

I fell in love with country music as a kid riding in my Grandad’s car listening to Dolly, Kenny Rogers & so many others. So to now have Gramps riding in my car still listening to Dolly & Kenny, but also to contemporary artists that mean a lot to me, such as First Time Flyers & Alana Springsteen and having that same experience means so much.

And last week was special; I got to take Gramps (and mum) to his second concert in my lifetime. First was Dolly in 2019, but a few months ago, he asked if I’d take him to see @firsttimeflyers because he’d heard them in my car and had been playing them at home too.
It was the easiest yes ever, and it ended up being one of my favourite memories I have with Gramps, so to get to share that with him and Mum, just like Dolly at the Opry, meant the world.

So thank you @vicki_manser @thejakemorrell @tim_prottey_jones and especially, it seems, to @poppyfardell (I promise he loved you all *almost* equally) 😅🤣

@firsttimeflyers had the whole @thelongroadfest crowd out dancing in the rain as they took to the Rhinestone Stage for the very first time. The guys have played this festival for 4 consecutive years and yesterday’s set was fun, high energy and the best job interview possible for being future headliners, don’t you agree @heybaylen?

A beautiful little throw back to when I did photography for @southbound615 of the incredible @spaceykacey.

When I originally started I specialised in monochrome photography, and as much as I love it I realised how much I was missing removing the colour.

So here are some never before seen photos of Kacey in colour. 🔥

@dawsonanderson crushed 2 sets at @thelongroadfest and such a cool guy to hang with as well. Cannot wait for him to come back to the UK to tour (and watch Arsenal games) 🇬🇧

Dawson was our guest on the latest episode of @dirtroadspodcast where we chatted all about making good music, Insta bios, Arsenal and loads more, so go give that a listen too 🙏

This is the first post I’ve ever been scared to publish, and a version of this has been sitting in my notes app for a while, but it doesn’t scare me hitting post now, thanks to the encouragement of some amazing people.
I never planned to work in country music media; it happened super organically from a genuine love of the music at a time in my life when I felt stuck and my mental health was at the lowest point it’s ever been, coupled with some chance encounters with certain people that, looking back now, feel like fate. They do say what’s truly meant for you will find you, so who knows?
My story started with a love of @alanaspringsteen debut album “Twenty Something” - Alana was releasing that as I was travelling around Australia by myself in 2023. On a pure country music fan level, I just loved it - still do - but the day after I landed home, nipping into a work environment that was already not great triggered a series of events that would hugely impact my mental and physical health, and then the music that had been the soundtrack to one of the best trips ever became the inspiration to change my situation entirely. It’s wild how you can hear a song 1000 times, but the lyrics can hit so different when you’re really going through something.
That’s exactly why @southbound615 exists; and if any of this resonates with you, always feel free to reach out to chat if you want to - Nikki
