What a pleasure to join legislative leaders, school district, union, state and community partners to recognize the tremendous work being done at Mattahunt Elementary School and celebrate the role Hub Schools play in lifting up the children and families of Boston.

Hub schools, also known as Community Schools, provide a network of community-based support and services inside and outside of the classroom, bringing together educators, community members, families, and students to strengthen conditions for student learning and healthy development. Students and their families get the resources they need to thrive: from ESOL education for parents, to access to food and clothing pantries, to year-round extracurricular programming, on-site health clinics, and so much more.

Thank you to the amazing @bostonteachersunion educators who make the Mattahunt such a special school, and to all the legislators who joined us today—we look forward to working with you to bring more community schools to the Commonwealth.

CPR is easier to learn than most people think, and far more likely to be needed than we’d like to imagine. That’s why we're advocating to make CPR training a requirement for high school graduation in Massachusetts.

❤️ A small investment of time. A potentially lifesaving impact.

Knowing CPR isn’t just a skill — it’s the power to save a life. ❤️ 🙌

Massachusetts is one of only nine states that doesn’t require CPR training for high school graduation. We’re working to change that so every student can become a lifesaver.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives passed three education bills on Wednesday that seek to improve reading outcomes among elementary school students, educate middle- and high-school students on personal financial literacy, and update the criteria for awarding a Seal of Biliteracy for bilingual graduating students.

The early literacy legislation requires school districts to train literacy educators and craft curricula for students using a research-based curriculum. It also sets new guidelines for schools regarding the monitoring of student literacy levels and the creation of thorough, science-based plans for students who are reading below their grade level.

Another bill requires school districts to instruct middle- and high-school students on financial literacy, helping our young people to understand concepts like long-term saving, consumer protection, using credit, and more. Lastly, the third bill updates the Seal of Biliteracy criteria by allowing the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to establish another assessment or equivalent alternative to MCAS.

Thank you to Speaker Mariano for prioritizing early literacy in our schools—especially for English language learner and bilingual students in districts in Lawrence—and the preparation of students for the future with updated financial education instruction. Thank you also to Chair Michlewitz for your relentless work on every piece of legislation we pass in the House, as well as to Chair Gordon for leading education and literacy advocacy here on Beacon Hill.

When cardiac arrest happens, CPR can double or even triple the chance of survival — but too many people still don’t know how to do it.

Massachusetts is one of only nine states that doesn’t require high-school students to learn CPR before graduation. We're working to change that, so every student can become a lifesaver. ❤️

Tuesday was the National Day of Action to Protect our Kids from devastating cuts to the US Department of Education and Federal funding of public schools. Bedford educators were out on the street at 7:15AM to raise awareness about this critical issue. Supporters of public education are encouraged to contact their representatives in congress and ask them to fight to protect a fully funded Dept. of Education. #protectourkids #dayofaction #bea #bedfordeducationassociation #mta #massteachers #masseducators #mateachers #massachusetts #bedford #bedfordma #bedfordmass #bedfordmassachusetts @edmarkey @senwarren @staterepkengordon21st @repkclark
