In 2021, we hosted 58 field events across 11 active Field Stations with 39 school and community partners… and that’s just the beginning ✨. Thank you to everyone who made our last field season rock!

*A Billion Oyster Project Field Station is a restoration site that hosts regular field days. They are targeted for long-term community and student engagement with an emphasis on local involvement.

Ever wondered what these holes were about in our gabions? They're actually fish tunnels! 🐟 These caverns are great for letting reef communities thrive and move about around our larger structures. They're also pretty helpful for the forklift!

How can restoring an oyster reef work as a step towards sustainable urban development? In #NewYorkCity, @billionoyster aims to turn the city's harbor into a functional ecosystem again – with the help of oysters. The plan is to restore a billion oysters to the New York Harbor by 2035 with the help of a public education initiative.

“For me the best experience is seeing how the schoolkids are starting to reclaim the harbor again,” says BOP founder Pete Malinowski.

Not a bad day to be on the #HudsonRiver—especially when you’ve got @harborschool grads in your crew! Stay tuned for oyster updates from the waters beneath the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (formerly the #tappanzeebridge) and thank you to @michael.abegg for making this work possible! 📸 @kt_mosher #hudsonriverfoundation
