Core Pillars of Coleman's Mindset

• Hard and Heavy Work Ethic: His mantra inside the gym was always "hard and heavy", famously performing monumental lifts like 800-pound squats and a 2,300-pound leg press. He believed in using the most weight possible with strict form and full range of motion.

• Positive Self-Talk ("Light Weight, Baby!"): Before tackling intimidating, near-impossible weights, he used psychological priming and self-talk—most notably shouting phrases like "Light weight!" and "Ain't nothin' but a peanut!"—to trick his mind into feeling unstoppable.

• No-Excuses Resilience: Early in his career, Coleman didn’t dominate right away; he placed low (15th, 11th, 9th) at early shows and faced years of slow progress and physical fatigue while working a full-time job as a police officer. Instead of quitting, he viewed every setback as fuel to outwork the competition.

• Killer Instinct and Prioritization: He preached that reaching the top requires a "killer instinct"—being willing to do what others refuse to do—coupled with strict daily prioritization of meals, training, and rest.

• Evolving Perspective on Training: Reflecting on the heavy toll decades of brutal training took on his body, Coleman later shared a more balanced wisdom: "If I could go back, I'd train smarter — not just heavier", while continuing to emphasize the critical importance of mental health alongside physical strength.

The "Toji mindset" draws on the persona of #Toji Fushiguro from the # anime Jujutsu Kaisen—the "Sorcerer Killer" who relies on raw human grit, self-reliance, and physical mastery instead of innate talent or magical gifts.

Great competition coming to eastern Tennessee on February 20th 2027 in Elizabethton 😎

This is an amazing gym with a picture of Bob Peoples on the wall. Bob deadlifted over 725 pounds at a bodyweight of about 180 pounds. His record still holds!

The gym owner is a great supporter of powerlifting and strength training and a TN USPA State record holder in the Bench Press.

Joining the 5-plate club means you have built world-class strength that fewer than 5% of lifetime lifters ever achieve.

To put it in perspective, pulling 495 pounds off the floor requires immense neurological drive, a bulletproof lower back, and exceptional technique. It is a milestone most gym-goers will never even see in person, let alone accomplish.
