A Contax, a light meter app and a bunch of cars getting destroyed walk into an Instagram post...
ba-dum-tss 🥁

Bad joke aside, this Contax has a pretty special story. It belonged to a client I worked with for a while, and together we built an archive of photographs spanning much of his life, organizing and preserving years of images that meant a lot to him and his family. He sadly passed away, and thanks to his wife, the camera eventually came to me.
I’m really happy to have it. Every time I use it, it brings back memories of a genuinely great person.

Now to shoot this roll, I also tried Pocket Meter @pocketmeter.pro a light meter app made by Bill Manning @studio.c41 from @atlantafilm.co
Bill is basically one of my occasional film dealers, helping keep my stash alive with cool rolls.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to actually post this about the app, but I finally did. The video shows the whole thing: meter the scene, transfer the settings to the Contax, shoot, and see what comes back.

And what did I decide to photograph for the test? The demolition derby in Fernie last August. Because apparently the logical next step after talking about archives, memory and light meters is watching cars smash into each other.
Try the app, kids. It works great!

And the film was @flicfilminc Aurora 800 😅

Here’s a quick preview of the PocketMeter Pro tap-to-spot meter, which gives you an idea of the various exposures in your shot. When you find the exposure you want, tap LOG to save your image with its metadata in the caption. The caption includes your standard exposure information (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO), plus white balance, rangefinder distance, and geolocation with Apple Maps integration.

Now available at the Apple App Store (Link in Bio).

PocketMeter Pro is now available on the @apple @appstore! This isn’t any ordinary light meter! PocketMeter Pro takes both cinematography and photography worlds and smashes them into a single app. Photographers have the tools to visualize their exposure with a tool cinematographers depend on, false color. Cinematographers have the ability to add ND into their light meter reading straight from the deck and so much more!

Some moments don’t need trending audio.
The countdown. The anticipation. The reactions. The sound.

After two incredible days at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, this was the moment we had all been waiting for. There’s really no way to recreate what it felt like to stand there and witness it.

So for this one, I’m simply letting you experience it with me.

Made for landscapes. In landscape.

Turn the phone and nothing gets left behind. The readout stays up top, the dials and locks stay under your thumb, and the viewfinder gets the whole vista.

Lock your shutter and aperture for the depth you want, let ISO ride, and read the light straight off the scene.

Then hit LOG. The frame saves to Photos with the full exposure stamped on it and geotagged to where you stood, so Photos drops it on the map and you can pull the spot up in Apple Maps when the light’s worth coming back for.

Currently in TestFlight beta. Link in bio.
