Destination marketing, local culture, and community lifestyle photography for Trafford Council’s new culture hub – Trafford Is.

This selection showcases some of the more people-centric lifestyle photography. The goal was to capture as broad a range of activities as possible, to highlight the variety of independent culture opportunities on offer in Trafford.

Here, the commercial lifestyle photography is all about candid energy and authentic interactions. Real Trafford people out there playing, discovering, learning and having fun.

Swipe through for a few favourites from the set.

Destination marketing, local culture, and community lifestyle for Trafford Council’s new culture hub – Trafford Is.

The brief was all about capturing authentic lifestyle photography of events and activities on offer in the borough. But it was also about place marketing – balancing broad architectural landmarks with smaller local gems, to show off Trafford and stay true to the place.

This is a short selection of the location-based images taken across all regions of the borough. Some at street level mixed with some aerial shots from the drone. (Special thanks to PhotoByPhe for her assisting / drone-spotting skills).

Full project case study and image breakdown now live on my site.

Capturing the cultural landscape for Trafford Council.

Had the pleasure of shooting destination branding photography for a new website and campaign, showcasing the cultural life of my home borough of Manchester.

The scope of this project was immense. Alongside authentic people-focused photography that captured the community lifestyle, they needed location photography, event photography plus marketing photography that spoke to “culture” generally.

As a Manchester commercial photographer, but also a Trafford resident this project was a dream to be part of.

Is every week that different?
Absolutely.

People often ask me how I fit everything in, so I thought I’d start sharing what my weeks actually look like. The shoots, the editing, the travelling, the coffee stops, the admin… and everything in between that keeps a freelance business ticking over.

Here’s last week.

Monday
A last-minute booking for @fuellingthehustle meant helping Mark get everything prepped before heading to a coffee shop in Salford for edits and admin. I finished the day photographing @oskarwitha.k mural workshop with Salford Youth Zone at Salford Rise, commissioned by @_solidground.

Tuesday
An early train into Manchester to catch up on edits and emails before my first shoot with @insiderbusinessnews, documenting their Round Table: Directors Summit.

Wednesday
Admin on the train to Delamere (one of the many perks of public transport), followed by a full day with @forestryengland updating their marketing library with a model family enjoying activities across the forest. Afterwards, straight to Edgeley Park to help serve Hustle coffee at the World Cup semi-final.

Thursday
Back to Delamere. The train was cancelled, so Mark gave me a lift instead, which turned into a nice chance for us to catch up. Another full day photographing volunteers across the forest, before heading to @stockr__m for an evening of networking and listening to some incredible people talk about local projects happening across Stockport.

Friday
A little pootle out for coffee with a friend before documenting the Stockport Digital Network, squeezing in plenty of edits and admin, then finishing the day at the launch of @plastic_shed in Stockport.

Saturday
An early start at Meadowhall for the launch of LUSH’s refurbished store. The afternoon was spent catching up on edits and admin, with a little doodling on @procreate for a friend’s wedding stationery next month.

Sunday
An early start at @edgeleypark for @runthroughuk Stockport 10K. It was the busiest stint Hustle has ever had, and we’re incredibly proud of what we pulled off. Safe to say, we earned a slower afternoon afterwards.

NEXT WEEK 🔜 STOCKROOM SOCIAL

Join us on the 16th July for a special Stockroom Social inspired by our NEW exhibition: The Marvel From Marple.

If you’re interested in architecture, design, graphics and typography, this is the social for you. We’ll be joined by special guests Dave Sedgwick (Studio DBD) & Amrit Randhawa (Taxi Cab Industries), who have both drawn inspiration from Stockport’s architecture and Alan Boyson's Merseyway Screen to create the brands that bring Stockroom to life.

As well as a chance to get creative and meet like-minded folk, Creative Programme Manager Gwen Riley-Jones will lead a conversation with @studiodbd and @taxicabindustries about how their research into Stockport's local history and archives has influenced their work with Stockroom.

🕔 5PM - 7PM
📍 Stockroom Studios
📅 Thurs 16 July

This event is presented alongside The Marvel from Marple exhibition. The Marvel from Marple is funded by @henrymoorefdn_grants and @stockr__m , and developed in partnership with @stockportcouncil and @sheffhallamuni

A range of posters from @mateactnow.

“The breadth and variations of responses in this initiative are both heartwarming (from a design-nerd POV) to eye-opening...as per its real intention, highlighting environmental damage. Extremely well-curated and planned out - the variation of responses is a great gauge as to where we are a nation of designers and what we have to say.” — Kātoitoi, the Aotearoa Design Archive 2020
