A woven pause beneath the sycamores trees. Two months since the The Nest was @fringebythesea

Interconnecting strands of jute creating a space of care.

An invitation to pause. To listen. To look. To feel.

Inspired by the 100,000 gannets of Bass Rock, The Nest emerged from a deep sense of awe in the preciousness and fragility of their world.

Soundscape Sula basana by @erlandcooper I feel lucky to be able to repeat listen. (Joy and a few tears every time).

A great feature in @thelistuk this month on 'Memorials to Sausage Politics' @edinburghprintmakers as part of a wider bumper issue for @ @edartfest @edfringe. Good read if you get the chance.

Thank you so much @afreka for taking the time to chat about the work and write the piece.

Also, big thanks once again to @studiororo for the amazing photos and @alandimmick for the great install shots.

Also, an additional recommendation from them for @esthercastle_art @eswsculpture that I wholeheartedly agree with ❤️❤️❤️

I'll be honest, it's as much of a surprise to me as I'm sure it is for you that one of the glossy lifestyle magazines decided to run a feature on me chatting about process and the upcoming show at @edinburghprintmakers

Go and grab yourself a copy of @homesandinteriorsmag for posterity.

Some more from “Initiated Desiring Universe’ at @eswsculpture

This detail from the larger installation is a direct reference to a scene I encountered on Findhorn beach where stems of marram grass appeared to ‘draw’ in the sand as it blew in the wind, rooted in place.

I was very excited to see Tim Ingold begin a recent lecture at St Andrews Botanic Garden (thanks @annedaffe !) with a similar image of marram grass, which has led to an event we are hosting at ESW on 6 June. I hope you can make it along, link is in the bio.

Marram grass has been a key focus throughout this wider project, after I learnt of the vital role it plays in coastal defence and stabilising sand dunes. Indeed it is thought the over harvesting of the grass caused the loss of the original Port of Findhorn due to shifting sands in 1702.

It led me to consider broader ideas of unseen forces acting in landscape and the (im)permanence of place. In the installation marram grass, cast in pewter, became an analogue for organic, ethereal, elemental systems we may overlook, whilst more apparent man made logics crumble and fail.

Thanks to @rossfrasermclean / @studiororo for the thoughtful documentation of the exhibition.

More images to come, but head along IRL if you can - lights are on 8am - 8pm until 7 June.
