What a pleasure to join legislative leaders, school district, union, state and community partners to recognize the tremendous work being done at Mattahunt Elementary School and celebrate the role Hub Schools play in lifting up the children and families of Boston.

Hub schools, also known as Community Schools, provide a network of community-based support and services inside and outside of the classroom, bringing together educators, community members, families, and students to strengthen conditions for student learning and healthy development. Students and their families get the resources they need to thrive: from ESOL education for parents, to access to food and clothing pantries, to year-round extracurricular programming, on-site health clinics, and so much more.

Thank you to the amazing @bostonteachersunion educators who make the Mattahunt such a special school, and to all the legislators who joined us today—we look forward to working with you to bring more community schools to the Commonwealth.

We were honored to welcome Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, Senator Liz Miranda and Representative Brandy Fluker-Reid to our Horizon's shelter.

They sat down with participants who shared firsthand how job coaching, housing assistance, childcare, and educational services are helping them build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

We're so proud of our participants and everything they've accomplished. Thank you to the Lt. Governor, Senator and Representative for taking the time to see how investing in mothers and families makes a lasting difference.

Celebrating Latino Excellence on the Hill!

For this year’s award, I’m proud to nominate Gaby Perry, a lifelong East Boston resident whose career and community service reflect a deep commitment to helping individuals, families, and her community build a strong foundation for long-term success.

As both a Business Development Officer and Loan Officer at First Priority Credit Union, Gaby works closely with members throughout the lending process, making what can often feel like a complicated experience more accessible, personal, and relationship-driven.

But Gaby’s commitment to East Boston extends far beyond her professional work. She gives her time and leadership to the community as a board member of both the East Boston Chamber of Commerce and ZUMIX, helping strengthen local businesses, support young people, and create opportunities for her neighbors.

Congratulations to all of the nominees!

So special to join friends, colleagues, and Gold Star families at the State House to celebrate my good friend, Brigadier General Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse II.

A proud Roxbury native, Tuskegee Airman, and lifelong public servant, Woody continues to inspire all of us. Thank you to the Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation for bringing everyone together to recognize a true American hero.

Good work, Governor Healey! 💜 We are excited to see Governor Healey, today, announce $2.25 million in new proposed investments to strengthen postpartum care and maternal mental health across Massachusetts.

The landmark Maternal Health Law of 2024 codified universal postpartum home visiting into law, ensuring that every new parent in Massachusetts can have access to a free postpartum home visit. Now, Governor Healey is proposing $2 million to expand the Welcome Family program statewide and help make that promise a reality for families across the Commonwealth. The Governor is also proposing $250,000 to strengthen MCPAP for Moms and directing DPH to broaden screening for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders so we can identify concerns earlier and connect moms with care.

And the progress continues. Yesterday, DPH began accepting applications for temporary licensure for Certified Professional Midwives, implementing another important piece of the 2024 Maternal Health Law and expanding birthing options for Massachusetts families.

Thank you, Governor Healey, for continuing to invest in moms, babies, and families and for helping bring the vision of the Maternal Health Law to life.

If transportation or distance is a barrier, we bring healthcare closer.

So proud to celebrate @CodmanHealth’s new mobile health clinic & support their work to meet people where they are.

This clinic will help address health disparities in the #MA7 & make care more accessible.

Today, I was proud to join my Co-Chair Senator Cindy Friedman as we opened the Conference Committee on H.4767/S.3184, An Act Requiring Health Care Employers to Develop and Implement Programs to Prevent Workplace Violence. I am joined on the House team by Representative Brandy Fluker-Reid and Representative Hannah Kane, and I look forward to working with our counterparts on Senator Friedman’s team, Senator Joan Lovely and Senator Kelly Dooner.

Workplace violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable, and our professional caregivers should feel safe when providing care to patients. We are all committed to finalizing this important legislation, as it will provide heightened protections to our front-line healthcare professionals who perform the essential work of caring for patients, supporting families and keeping our health care system the best in the nation. I look forward to working expeditiously with my colleagues to send the bill to the Governor’s desk for her signature.

Making a little Boston history yesterday!

As a proud son of South Boston, I’m incredibly honored to be the first South Boston native to serve as Grand Marshal of the Boston Caribbean Carnival, marching through Roxbury and Dorchester for the 53rd annual celebration.

Thank you to CACAB President Shirley Shillingford and the entire Caribbean American Carnival Association of Boston for this tremendous honor and for all they do to celebrate and preserve Caribbean culture, heritage, and traditions in our city.

Proud to celebrate alongside Grand Matron Rep. Brandy Fluker-Reid, Carnival King Kenny Douglas, and the incredible masqueraders, performers, organizers, volunteers, families, and neighbors who make Carnival one of Boston’s great traditions.

A special thank you as well to Commissioner Michael Cox and the Boston Police Department, Boston EMS, Massachusetts State Police, and all of our first responders and public safety personnel who worked throughout the festivities to keep everyone safe.

For more than five decades, Carnival has brought generations together and celebrated the extraordinary contributions of the Caribbean community to the culture and character of Boston.

Happy Carnival, Boston! 🎉🇹🇹🇯🇲🇭🇹🇧🇧🇬🇩🇩🇲
