Join us on Tuesday, October 13 at 12 pm as Oscar Rangel presents Lignum et Umbra - La Madera y la Sombra, a solo classical guitar recital exploring the instrument’s darker, atmospheric side. Blending classical repertoire, original music, and cinematic soundscapes, the program moves through memory, folklore, shadow, and quiet intensity.

Rangel is a Mexican-Canadian guitarist and composer whose work bridges classical tradition, contemporary storytelling, and evocative sound design. Conceived especially for resonant historical spaces, Lignum et Umbra invites the audience into an intimate world where wood, stone, silence, and music seem to remember one another.

Can circle, too, and not go wrong/
Amidst the natural, pulsing forces/
Of sky and grass and cows and horses.”

On this Canada Day, we give thanks for this land in all its beauty, for the many peoples and stories that shape it, and for the opportunity to grow with hope together. Let’s reflect and remember what we hold in common. ❤️

Today, we share this beautiful new arrangement of O Canada by our Musician-in-Residence, John Arndt, offered by the Timothy Eaton Music & Worship Ministry.

May this tender anthem be a prayer of gratitute - for the gifts we have received, for the work still before us, and for the grace that calls us to love our neighbours and care for this country we call home. Happy Canada Day 🍁
