Mr. Make it Happen
58 in. x 68 in.
C. 2026

Acrylic and oil paint on unstretched canvas.

A father and his children’s bond extends beyond the barriers of life and death. A true love story. I know so many stand up men, niggas who have the ambition and audacity to make a way, any way, for their children to grow in a cold world. The struggle breeds a certain kind of man. One capable of using every ounce of life in their often frail, nourishment-lacking body to dedicate their well-being to the HUSTLE. Making a way. Showing up in the present, battling against the pressures of a society built on damaging bodies like his own.

What I love about this piece is how Baltimore it is. Some overly Baltimore shit. I love my people yo. A certain swag, flyness that’s undeniable!! I really love how this piece mirrors a mural that could be seen outside in the city. The Black imagination is so vast. One thing about it, we’re going to make a way. Shoutout to my father for being Mr. Make it Happen, doing what he can with what he has access to. Five boys, and he still made a way, flaws and all.

This song reminds me of a time when it was the ringtone for our house phone. I used to be so scared of it because it made me think of death, specifically the death of Mr. Make it Happen.

Black men, keep striving to be Mr. Make it Happen. It’s no ifs, ands, or buts. We have to.

Thank you to everyone who’s sat and resonated with this piece. I always wanted this piece to bs the piece to represent Today’s Supper. The Black Sun, with its black ass nose and lips, will forever reign over all. Please examine the whole carousel.
