So July is disability pride month. I am going to be completely honest, I as a disabled person do not know how to feel about this. Don't get me wrong, my disability has shaped me, made me who I am and it is due to my circumstances that I am one of the most determined resilient people around. However, as to whether it is something I can take pride in I'm really not sure.

I struggle with so much self doubt at times and recently the self doubt has been very strong. Yes I have done all these amazing things, I am an athlete and an academic but at times I do question whether this really matters?

Within BJJ I have seen numerous people with less severe CP competing too and whilst on one hand it does help me, it also makes me doubt my place in the sport. What is someone with my level of CP doing when I feel like otters are able to set a better example.

At the same time, I have done all these things and do stand out but I constantly feel irrelevant and unwanted when it comes to employment. I know I am capable of so much and yet at a time where I feel like I need to get to the 'next stage' of life because of my age I am always made to feel so small. Even the fact that I am so strong, yet struggle to do basic things that many take for granted is something that at times rocks me to my core.

Regardless though I do my best to carry the responsibility and represent those with disabilities in a positive light. My journey has led me to some amazing people and experiences and I hope that in some way I am making a meaningful impact and showing others that they too belong.

If I cannot necessarily take pride in my disability I will take pride in the fact that regardless of everything I keep going and trying to move forward 👊🏻

I hope people don't mind me being vulnerable as we move into this month.

Happy disability pride 💙.

As I have been struggling with a lot this year, especially towards the second half I thought to myself what have I actually achieved? Does what I am doing actually matter?

I then looked back through photos from the year and realised that it has been a mad year and I'm not going to lie, I almost cried.

I competed 5 times this year;

1. February: Berserker Brawl @godsofwar_mma
2. May: @godsofwar_mma Opening
3. July: Berserker Brawl
4. August: @reorgopen_bjj London
5. November: Abu Dhabi World Para Jiu Jitsu Championships

That is insane, despite only winning at one of these I stepped up and improved so much in my Jiu Jitsu and I should be proud of that as well as the discipline and dedication I have shown. I got to show myself on the world stage too.

On top of all this I managed to produce one of the most unique MA dissertations, where I got a 75, completed a pre advanced Japanese module and a linguistics module, achieving distinctions across the board.

I am one of the most active competitors on the para jiu jitsu scene and smashing it academically and 2024 has allowed me to do that.

Thank you to my friends, family and coaches without who this would not be possible. I love you all 💙. What a year 👊🏻.
