We thought we’d find one universal “cold plunge brain.”

But we found the opposite.

Some of the brains shifted toward slower activity - calm, inward, downregulated.

The others shifted toward faster activity - alert, focused, task-ready.

And across the cohort, those shifts resulted in greater hemispheric symmetry - a more balanced distribution of activity between the two sides of the brain.

Humans have been using nature-based regulation for thousands of years.

A 3-minute plunge is a controlled stressor, challenging the nervous system to adapt in the direction it needs.

What’s fascinating is that reorganization seems entirely dependent on the individual’s starting state.

Perhaps part of the reason why research has produced such variable results is because relatively little work has looked at the brain’s immediate response.

If you’re an avid plunger - or thinking about starting - consider: When are you plunging, what state are you starting in, and what do you want from it: activation and focus, or calm and recovery?

Maybe the “best” way to plunge depends less on a universal protocol and more on where your system is - and where you want it to go.

Thank you to @thechillpod.co & @krisricewellness for partnering with us to push the science forward 🧊 🧠

What actually happens in your brain during a cold plunge?

It’s a question I’ve wondered for years.

People often describe feeling calmer, clearer, more focused, or more energized after cold immersion. But until recently, we’ve mostly relied on personal experience to explain why.

This summer, we’re beginning to explore that question through brain mapping.

If you’re unfamiliar with it, brain mapping measures patterns of brain activity. It helps us better understand how different areas of the brain communicate and respond under different conditions.

We’ve already completed our first two brain maps and the results were fascinating.

This is just the beginning.

Over the coming months, we’ll share what we’re learning, why it matters, and how this research is helping shape the future of @thechillpod.co

Because we believe the future of wellness isn’t choosing between lived experience and science.

It’s making room for both.

More than muscle recovery, cold plunging may be one of the most powerful tools for building resilience of the mind 🧊 🧠

The data suggests the brain may be learning how to move through stress, so it can respond differently to future challenges.

This experience can help build greater nervous system flexibility over time.

Because growth doesn’t come from avoiding stress entirely.

It comes from teaching the brain + body that stress can be experienced, processed, and recovered from safely.

At REALM Global, we brought something different.

For a network of the top 1% of real estate agents around the world, it’s about precision in performance.

And in an industry full of noise, it’s hard to know what actually moves the needle.

Through real-time brain mapping, we measured how the nervous system responds to performance, stress, and recovery, revealing the patterns behind how people operate at their best.

What we often think of as “feel-good” practices - breathwork, cold exposure, oxygenation - are actually creating measurable shifts in your system in real time.

Because at the highest level, it’s about knowing what works for you - and letting go of what doesn’t 🧠💪🏼

This is The Brain Bar.

Every founder wants certainty. The real growth happens when you learn to move without it.

For Kris Rice, the word that defines her journey is trust. Trusting herself. Trusting what is coming next. Trusting that something better is ahead even when she cannot see it yet. That kind of trust shifts everything because it keeps you moving instead of clinging to what feels familiar.

Founders ignore their best ideas because they feel too wild, too big, or too early. That is usually the sign that they matter.

Kris Rice reminds us that the ideas we cannot shake are not random. They pull at us for a reason. Whether they become a business or simply something that fills you up, those sparks are worth paying attention to. They point you toward the work you are meant to do.

Every founder hits that moment when the thing you wanted to succeed is not the thing that is meant to grow.

Kris Rice tried to juggle a full time job, a passion project, and a new idea that would not stop nudging her forward. The real shift happened when she stopped forcing the old path and followed the one with momentum. Letting go was hard, but it opened the door to what became ChillPod.
