POV: I just celebrated ONE YEAR as a Physical Therapist. 🥹🎓✨

The same person who was once told that PT wasn’t for her and that she should choose another career is now living the very dream people told her to give up on.

Dismissed twice. Rejected countless times. Still, I never gave up.

Dr. Bria Jackson, PT, DPT. A reminder that other people’s opinions do NOT determine your destiny. ❤️‍🩹

There is LIFE after dismissal. Trust God’s timing. Your story isn’t over! 🙏🏾✨

I can’t lie… it was HARD filming this episode, and even harder for me to post it. ❤️‍🩹

I apologize for the delay. I posted this video late last night, but honestly, I needed time to process the vulnerability that came with sharing this part of my story.

In this episode, you’re seeing me at what was truly the lowest point of my PT journey. I was scared. I was hurt. I was uncertain about my future. And I had no idea how my story was going to end.

But now, looking back, this episode is also a reminder of HOW FAR I’VE COME. 🥹

The same person who was once dismissed from PT school…
The same person who had to fight to be readmitted…
The same person who questioned whether she would ever become a physical therapist…

became Dr. Bria J. 🎓✨

I’m sharing this not because it’s easy to relive, but because I know someone out there is currently sitting in their own lowest moment, wondering if their dream is over.

I pray this episode finds you at the right time and reminds you that dismissal does not have to be the end of your story.

Sometimes the chapter you’re ashamed to talk about becomes the chapter that gives someone else hope. ❤️‍🩹

Before I was Dr. Bria J, I was just an undergraduate at Northern Illinois University trying to figure out what path I wanted to take. 🎓

I declared my major as Pre-PT, not knowing just how much of a rollercoaster this journey would become. 🎢

What I thought would be a gap year turned into gap years.

There were applications, 20+ rejections, setbacks, and eventually my first acceptance into PT school… followed by dismissal.

But looking back, every twist and turn was part of the story.

This is where it all started. ❤️

🎙️ My Dismissal Story: Part I — How It All Started is this week’s solo episode, where I take you back to the beginning and share the story behind Dr. Bria J.

🎧 Tune in and get to know the woman behind the title.

Because dismissal wasn’t the end of my story. It was only the beginning of the comeback.

Imagine being told you’ll NEVER pass your boards… and then becoming Dr. Bria Jackson, PT, DPT. 👏🏾🎓

Sometimes the words meant to discourage you become the very motivation you need to keep going.

Dr. Bria was dismissed from PT school twice, but she refused to let someone else’s opinion determine the ending of her story.
Now? She’s a licensed physical therapist doing everything they said she wouldn’t. 🙌🏾
“Thank you for the motivation.” 🎤

If you’ve ever been dismissed, failed a class, been placed on academic probation, or had someone question whether you belong in healthcare—keep going. Your story isn’t over.

She applied to Northwestern ONE DAY before the deadline… and the rest is history. 🩺✨

From a 3.9 GPA HBCU graduate studying for the MCAT, to an unexpected injury that shifted her path toward physical therapy, her journey was anything but linear.

Third time’s a charm. 🙏🏾

Through setbacks, she leaned into affirmations, prayer, manifestation, and most importantly—believing in herself.

And then… she found out she PASSED on her BIRTHDAY! 🎂🎉

Maybe the lesson wasn’t “why is this taking so long?”
Maybe it was patience.

Because sometimes, the blessing comes right when you’re ready to receive it. Patience is rewarded.

One school. One acceptance. One dismissal. One comeback. And a Doctor later. 💛

This week on Dismissed to Doctor, Dr. Edlecia Ward shares her powerful journey—from falling in love with PT after anatomy, studying abroad in Costa Rica, and getting accepted into PT school on her first try, to failing neuro, facing dismissal, appealing, and finding the courage to keep going.

She gets real about failure, asking for help, changing study habits, faith, being a first-generation student, and the parts of PT school social media doesn’t always show.

School is hard. Failure happens. But your setback does not have to be your ending.

This week on Dismissed to Doctor, we welcome Dr. Senobia Crawford! 💛

A Howard University alum, pediatric physical therapist, educator, and retired Hampton University Director, Dr. Crawford brings a unique program director’s perspective to the conversation.

She shares powerful insight on what happens when students struggle, advice for students who have been dismissed, overcoming imposter syndrome, learning from mistakes, and why you should never be afraid of “no.”

One message that stood out: “If you’ve been accepted, you have what it takes to finish.”

And her reminder to us all:
“As I reach forward, I must reach back.” 🙌🏾

This episode is for every student navigating a setback who needs to remember that one difficult chapter does not define the entire story.

What happens when the student who was once dismissed becomes the doctor determined to change the system?

Join Professor PW for a powerful conversation with Dr. Bria J as they explore the realities behind academic dismissal, resilience, and the inequities that shape educational and healthcare experiences.

Together, they discuss:
✨ The childhood systems that shaped what felt possible.
✨ Why “resilience” should never replace meaningful support.
✨ The lasting impact of being dismissed—and rebuilding confidence.
✨ How being unheard transformed the way Dr. Bria J listens to patients.
✨ Why grades and board scores don’t define what makes an exceptional physical therapist.
✨ Building a legacy committed to dismantling health inequities.

This conversation is for every student who’s ever questioned whether they belonged, every future healthcare professional striving to lead with empathy, and everyone committed to creating more equitable systems.

🎧 Tune in, reflect, and join the conversation. Because equity isn’t just a concept—it’s a practice.
