Senegal is my spiritual home…..

As I have come to learn that my lineage is Jolo, Fula and Mandinka, my entire understanding of myself has deepened. The Mandinka people have long resided throughout Mali, Senegal, The Gambia and more, carrying a rich legacy of Islamic scholarship, trade, devotion, and movement across oceans long before the stories we were taught ever began.

I am beginning to understand that knowing your lineage is not about pride alone it is about remembrance.

When I was younger, I had a dream about a specific place, little did I know it was in Kossi Baye. I will not share it now, but beneath this tree, God showed me a future for myself at a time when I believed there was none left.

I was carrying grief, uncertainty, and questions that only my soul could answer. Yet somehow, this sacred land had already been written for me.

Here, I discovered that lineage is not just blood it is spiritual inheritance.

I found a family whose love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ transcends place and time. A family whose greatest longing is to one day witness the beauty of our Beloved in Madinah.

Medina Baye has nurtured me, even when I am far away. It has become a place of refuge, remembrance, and return.

This land has taught me that Africa is not a distant place to visit. For many of us, it is a home we are remembering.

Soon, I shall return.

Because this place is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

It is sacred.

It is healing.

It is ancestral.

It is love.

It is my home.

My spiritual home.

These are my people. 🤍🌍✨
Also I love and appreciate Ghana too

Honored to recite poetry from my book at the annual Eid Celebration, introduced by @cmselvenabrookspowers and sharing space with my dear sister @supersahr of @blackmuslimsnow ,Honoree @abah9 from @afrikananyc fellow speaker @jamelcoyhudsonphd @dr.yusefsalaam
,and Honoree @amani from @muslimgirl

As a Black Muslim convert, moments like these remind me that our stories, our faith, and our creativity belong in every room.

The cloud dissolves not to disappear, but to become rain.

May every word we offer become mercy for someone else’s journey.

Alhamdulillah.

I appreciate so much my friends who called me to the mic this day. I remember just being so quiet for a couple days after when I went home sitting in silence. #nationalpoetrymonth
