Frieeeeends!! This is your last week to see Soft Friction at The Blanc. Soft Friction is a group exhibition bringing together seven female artists whose work in textiles explores invisible labor, soft power, and the changing realm of craft with new technologies.

The Domestic Machine film update! Back in February we started editing @thedomesticmachine, and we’re excited to showcase some of the work behind the film over the next few months!

A sneak peek of the documentary is currently on view at the Soft Friction exhibition at THE BLANC, alongside knitwear by Lindsay Degen who you’ll be seeing in the film. 🧶

We’re headed to the Open Hardware Summit to give a talk on the long, unwritten history of knitting machine communities, the hardware mods, the reverse-engineered mechanisms, and the collective knowledge that kept discontinued machines alive for decades.

Susan Guagliumi has been knitting and teaching others to knit for more than 50 years. An expert in the field, she has authored numerous books and inspired many to experiment with yarn and machine knitting. We are quite excited to include Susan and her story in “The Domestic Machine,” coming soon!! 🧶📽️
