If you’ve been wanting an easy getaway from Charleston, Georgetown is only an hour away and this spot is worth the drive alone!

What we ordered:
🦀 Crab fingers (AMAZING)
🥚 Deviled eggs with fried oysters (please order these)
🐟 Market fish
🥩 Steak frites
🍮 Crème brûlée

You can drive up for the day, shop, walk the waterfront and come here for dinner. Save this for when you’re looking for a getaway 🤍

Last night, The Independent at The George had the pleasure of joining the Pawleys Island Wine & Food Gala, serving 400 of our “charcuterie bite in one” creations alongside chefs, wineries and purveyors from across the region.

The annual gala brings together food and wine in celebration of the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art, marking the beginning of a season dedicated to music, art and community.

We’re grateful to have been part of the evening and to share a little taste of @theindependentsc beyond Georgetown. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, and to the team behind the gala for having us.

Boaters ask one question before they book anything: where does the boat sleep.

@winyahbayclubsc in Georgetown answers it. 24 floating slips, power and water at every one, dockage included with your stay, and the historic district is a golf cart ride away. This was our perfect two days, boat included.

Where we stayed: Bonito no. 17

What we ordered:
@kostabowls Berry green bowl with chocolate plant-based protein, chia seeds, almond butter, cacao nibs, & green powder

@theindependentsc Daily rotating oysters, raw

@631franksonfront Grilled petite filet, Mediterranean salad, Hey Mambo mocktail

Note for the boat: there’s a bridge between the bay and the marina, 20-foot clearance at high tide. Know your height before you commit.

P.S. BIG thanks to @marshalls_marine for letting us park our boat trailer there!

When our guests ask where to eat in Georgetown, The Independent immediately comes to mind.

Just about a mile from Winyah Bay Club, The Independent serves incredible, ingredient-driven seafood with a menu that highlights the best of the Lowcountry, including local fishermen, farmers, and purveyors.

The food is exceptional, but what really makes a meal here stand out is the hospitality. The team goes above and beyond, making you feel genuinely taken care of and turning dinner into an experience you’ll remember.

A few of our recommendations:
• Raw oysters
• Baked oysters
• Deviled eggs (topped with a fried oyster)
• Crab fingers with housemade remoulade
• Watermelon feta salad
• Crab cakes
• Cheshire bone-in pork chop

For the table:
• Braised collard greens
• Roasted heirloom carrots
• Truffle Parmesan fries

And make sure to save room for dessert:
• Housemade apple fritter with a scoop of ice cream

It’s everything we love recommending to our guests: incredible food, gracious hospitality, and a dining experience that feels truly special.

A day at The George is best paired with a meal at The Independent.

At The Independent, evenings bring fresh seafood, seasonal ingredients and Lowcountry flavors to dinner, while weekends call for a comforting brunch.

Whether it’s dinner after a day in Georgetown, brunch before heading out, or simply a reason to spend a little more time with us, The Independent is part of the experience at The George.

@theindependentsc is located in the George Hotel downtown
Georgetown SC, is definitely a MUST TRY if you’re in the area.
The customer service was TOP TIER from the very warm greeting at the front door to our AMAZING WAITER‼️
The atmosphere was beautiful and Carolina infusion inspired food was DELICIOUS‼️

I thoroughly enjoyed this fine dining experience and didn’t even have to travel out of town to do so‼️

I will be returning ASAP, hopefully for a staycation at the George, care to join⁉️
