Finding a therapist is already tough, and a lot of people have to make a difficult decision between finding providers who are in-network with their insurance and finding someone who specializes in the areas they need support around.

This is a systemic issue as many therapists are having to choose between a potential form of accessibility and meeting their own financial needs. Everyone deserves access to therapy that is supportive and meets their needs, and therapists deserve to be compensated for their emotional and often invisible labor as well.

While not a solution, one really great option that addresses both of these challenges is treatment scholarships and therapy funds. These allow therapists to be compensated adequately for their time while also making private pay more accessible to many folks by covering the cost of a number of therapy sessions.

These funds can help offset the costs of therapy and many of them can be applied to more than once, understanding the importance of long-term support and care.

Weโ€™ve compiled a list of some treatment scholarships and therapy funds in this post, and hope it gives you a starting place. You can also reach out to your provider about sliding scale or OON benefits, if you arenโ€™t already familiar.
