We (Jenny & Jourdan) are so happy to share I Come From an Island with you. What started as a class project has grown into something we hoped it could be: a poetry film surrounded by the faces of women from our Island.

Thank you to everyone who sent in a clip and helped bring that vision to life. It means so much to see the film carry all of your faces with it, and we’re so grateful to have you as part of it. A special shout-out to @lumierecb for welcoming the film and giving this project a space to grow.

At the heart of the poem is our hope for the next generation of women: that they’ll grow up knowing exactly who they are. Our dream is that this film can keep carrying that hope wherever it goes.
We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we’ve loved seeing it grow. Please feel free to share it with the special women in your life.
♥️
We’re leaving the JotForm open for anyone who feels called to send in a clip. As we bring I Come From an Island to more spaces, we hope it can continue to grow and evolve as more women feel called to be a part of it. You can find the link in my bio, and after you fill out the form, the instructions for sending in your finished clip are at the bottom.

✨ LUMIÈRE NIGHT ✨

We’re staying open late tonight! 🌙

Come wander through downtown Cape Breton and stop by Of Kin & Keep until 12 AM as we celebrate Lumière Night. 🕯️✨

We’re #16 on the Lumière list, and we’d love for you to stop in and experience “I Come From an Island”, our co-owners @thewitchingpost_ current installation celebrating the creativity, stories and spirit of this place we call home.

And what a day it’s already been! ❤️ We had such a wonderful book launch for local author William J. Gardiner and his debut novel, The Power Five. We’ll be sharing much more from today soon!

For tonight, though, come enjoy the lights, the art, the energy and everything that makes Cape Breton so special.

✨ WE’VE BEEN NOMINATED! ✨

Well… this was a pretty incredible email to wake up to this morning. 🥹🤎

Of Kin & Keep has been nominated for a 2027 Canadian Choice Award in the Artisan Shops category for Sydney! 🇨🇦✨

For a little shop that opened its doors less than a year ago, this feels HUGE.

Of Kin & Keep was built around a simple idea: create a space where local makers, artists, authors, small businesses and creatives could have a home, while bringing something a little different back to downtown Sydney.

And somehow, this little idea of ours has grown into a community that continues to show up for us again and again.

Now we need your help! 🤎

This is the nomination stage, which means community support helps determine which businesses move forward to become Official Nominees. Nominations are open until October 31st, and every nomination helps.

If you’ve shopped with us, discovered a new local maker through us, attended an event, brought someone through our doors, shared one of our posts, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, we would be so grateful for your nomination.

🏆 NOMINATE OF KIN & KEEP HERE:

We are incredibly proud to represent the makers, artists and small businesses that fill our shop, because Of Kin & Keep wouldn’t exist without them or without all of YOU.

Sydney, you’ve been so good to us. Let’s see where this little shop can go. 🥹✨

Thank you, truly, for continuing to believe in what we’re building. 🤎

✨ WE’VE BEEN NOMINATED! ✨

Okay Cape Breton… this one feels pretty special. 🥹

Of Kin & Keep has officially been nominated for the 2026 New Business of the Year Award through the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce!

We opened our doors with a pretty big dream: to create something different on Charlotte Street. A space where local makers, artists, authors, vintage collectors and small businesses could come together under one roof. A space built around community, creativity and giving people a place to belong.

And somehow, in less than a year, here we are. 🥹

Four women. Four moms. Four small business owners who decided to take a chance on an idea and figure it out as we went.

Every purchase, every share, every vendor who trusted us with their work, every person who walked through our doors, every cruise ship day, late night, rearranged display, baby brought to work and chaotic group chat has helped build this little shop into what it is.

To whoever nominated us, thank you. Truly. Knowing that someone in our community believed Of Kin & Keep deserved to be recognized means more than we can put into words.

We’re still new. We’re still growing. And if you’ve been following along lately, you already know we have some pretty exciting ideas for what comes next. 👀✨

New Business of the Year nominee.

Not bad for four moms with a wild idea on Charlotte Street. 🤍

Here’s to Of Kin & Keep, and to everything still to come. 🥂✨

We always said Of Kin & Keep was meant to be more than just a store.

Every day, we're making something bigger than a place to shop. We're making joy. Trust. Magic. Belonging. Connection. Friendships. Community.

Every day, we choose to support local makers, artists, collectors, and small businesses because we believe the people behind the products matter just as much as the products themselves.

These are just a few of the many beautiful treasures you'll find at Of Kin & Keep, but what we hope you'll take home most is the feeling that you belong here.

Stop by soon, say hello, and see what we're building together. 🤍
